Golden Globes 2012 - My Review

I'm an avid follower of award shows, although the Academy Awards is truly the only one that I consistently watch every year. Sometimes I tune into SAG and People's Choice, but it's the Oscars, Golden Globes, and Emmy's that really have the draw.

Sunday night we were able to watch what was supposed to be rude, probably crude, and definitely obnoxious. Like many critics are saying, the ceremony was rather "tame" for Gervais. But that didn't mean it wasn't a good show. In terms of hosting he did a fantastic job. Now comes my criticism...hold your breath...

I hate the winners. Screw it, I hate the nominees (most of them anyway). I love movies. I could surgically remove my eyeballs and place them in front of a tv screen while I go about my day...okay maybe not that far, but pretty damn close. I've seen probably 80% of the films that were nominated. I think my biggest pet peeve is the winners because every year I feel like the same people win. More and more these award shows become political. While I'm not discrediting Meryl Streep as an actress, but...come on have you seen Girl With a Dragon Tattoo? Rooney Mara killed it. And I can't even fathom why that move isn't nominated over Hugo? I saw Hugo - in theaters. Needless to say, my sister and I were debating on waliing out an hour into the film. And I LOVE family films. We Bought a Zoo was probably the cutest thing in seven different continents, but Hugo was so long and so slow that I nearly cried when all my Reeses were gone. Never again.

Enough with my ranting. One day I hope that the awards shows will go back to what they were. Until then I have to suffer through knowing that another moved claimed - Best Movie of the Year - when it was anything but.
