Books into Movies: The Perks of Being a Wallflower (Rating Change)

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is sometimes described as this generation's The Catcher in the Rye. The movie adaptation for the book has already been filmed and awaiting release in 2012, although the official date has not yet been chosen.

I haven't read the book, but I will definitely try to before the movie comes out. The cast includes some of my favorite actors: Logan Lerman, Emma Watson, and Ezra Miller. Last week it was just revealed that the movie was given an R rating for "teen drug and alcohol use, and some sexual references." Of course this doesn't bode well for a movie targeted for teens. Based on the synopsis of the book I'm not sure any teenager would want to bring their parents to the theatre with them. So it wasn't much of a surprise when an appeal was sent out to change the rating.

The results - the movie is now PG-13!
The movie will come out sometime in 2012. It's one of the few books into movies that I'm really, really excited for this year!

What about you? Are you excited for the movie? And who would have thought Percy Jackson and Hermoine Granger wold end up in a movie together - not me!

  1. I read the book a long time ago, and I really enjoyed it. It was a coming of age novel, but it's weird because it was written in the style of, "you never know the narrators name, etc" and for this movie to be made, they had to adapt it a little differently. But I'm still excited to see the movie! All the screen stills online I see look really classy and I can't wait to see how it plays out. Thanks for the info update!

    1. I'm glad you liked the book! I love coming of age stories, so I think I would like it. I didn't know the narrator's name is never mentioned. That's interesting. I feel like they definitely will have to change that for the movie unless it's going to be like the movie "Driver" or "Fight Club." Now I'm really curious :) Thanks for visiting!!
