I must begin this review by saying that I'm not the biggest Channing Tatum fan. In fact, I avoid movies with the actor because I feel like the movie depreciates in value as soon as his face appears on screen. In 21 Jump Street something happened that I thought would never be possible in a million years. I liked Channing Tatum. I Literally can't even believe I'm typing the words, but there they are. I liked Channing Tatum. He was really good in this comedy about two cops sent undercover to high school. It makes me think that maybe he shouldn't be doing any dramas or romantic comedies...maybe is true niche is just plain old comedy.
Comedy is always a genre that's difficult to produce since everyone has their own tastes in comedy. For me, 21 Jump Street was really just about funny clichés, but it never once felt cliche itself. It was executed so well and having Jonah Hill and Hanning Tatum lead the brigade was very smart. Both actors work off each other in a way that makes the movie endearing. Channing Tatum as the jock-type bafoon turned out to be the more sympathetic character, which made the movie even better.
The movie is all about finding the dealer of this weird hallucinogenic drug being passed around the school. The funniest part of the movie is when Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum take the drug themselves. The way it is filmed is unique and illicits many laughs.
I wold recommend this to anyone who actually wants to see Channing Tatum act well. Yeah, that's a very opinionated recommendation, but it works :)
If you've already seen the movie or are interested in my favorite seen check it out below! Personally, as a science major in college...this was pretty awesome!
