Recently Jena Malone has been offered the role for Johanna, but Lionsgate has not confirmed anything yet. The role for Finnick and other tributes are still up in the air. Filming will begin later this year, while the movie is set for release November 22, 2013.

In more recent news, the DVD of The Hunger Games will be released August 18th and will have some great bonus features on it. Check out the trailer below for some awesome preview clips:

Lionsgate has also released an official synopsis for Catching Fire. Read it below:

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) — a competition that could change Panem forever.

I'm pretty excited that Hoffman has joined the cast. He's an amazing actor and I know he'll do the role justice! What do you think of the casting so far? Do you have any suggestions for who should play Finnick? That role seems to be the most interesting. I can't wait until they announce the actor. Comments below!

  1. I've heard many people say that that actor that played Sebastian from Glee should be Finnick. I've also heard people say Alex Pettyfer, because that's the first name people think of when we say "gorgeous movie character." I'm yet undecided, but Hoffman looks like a good pick for the gamemaker!

    1. Sebastian from Glee...oooh I haven't heard that one yet. I'm still pro-Armie Hammer. I feel like Alex Pettyfer's name gets thrown around for every YA movie, lol :) I'm hoping the choice just looks like Finnick (and can act).

  3. I can’t say that I am very familiar with Hoffman, but he seems like a good fit for the role of Plutarch. I was imagining someone younger to play the part, like Hugh Jackman, but an older, wiser Gamemaker makes sense! Does anyone have any Hoffman movie to suggest so I can familiarize myself with him a bit more? I have the Blockbuster@Home service through my Dish account that gives me tons of movies by mail, at a Blockbuster store or streaming live; it’s like I have a private Blockbuster store in my house, so any and all suggestions will be much appreciated! As for Finnick, I was just having this conversation with a few coworkers of mine at Dish, and we think Armie Hammer would be awesome! He is gorgeous and has the Finnick look described in the novels! What do you guys think about him as a candidate?

    1. I've only seen a few movies with Hoffman. My favorites have to be Pirate Radio and Almost Famous. But he's hilarious in Along Came Polly (although his character in Catching Fire will be nothing like this).

An equivalent to a private Blockbuster? Oooh! That would be my heaven :) Since I'm in college dorms the best I get is cable. But they do give us HBO! I was surprised about that one.

Finnick = Armie Hammer! I've totally thought this since the beginning. I really hope they choose him. You're right, he's gorgeous and looks exactly how Finnick is described.
