Another YA book has been optioned for the big screen! According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie rights for Origin by Jessica Khoury were bought by Scott Steindorff and his production company, Scott Pictures. Continue reading for more details!

Scott Steindorff is known for The Lincoln Lawyer and Penelope. I'm excited that another YA book has been optioned! Origin will be released on September 4, 2012 from Razorbill. The cover for the book is gorgeous!

Pia has grown up in a secret laboratory hidden deep in the Amazon rain forest. She was raised by a team of scientists who have created her to be the start of a new immortal race. But on the night of her seventeenth birthday, Pia discovers a hole in the electric fence that surrounds her sterile home—and sneaks outside the compound for the first time in her life.

Free in the jungle, Pia meets Eio, a boy from a nearby village. Together, they embark on a race against time to discover the truth about Pia’s origin—a truth with deadly consequences that will change their lives forever.

Origin is a beautifully told, shocking new way to look at an age-old desire: to live forever, no matter the cost. This is a supremely compelling debut novel that blends the awakening romance of Matched with the mystery and jungle conspiracy of Lost.

I will end up reading Origin in the future, but for now I'm stepping back from dystopia (I'm having a dystopian overload!). I hope that the movie gets made though. There are so many books that get optioned for film, but never get made. This happens for various reasons. Fingers crossed!

Are you planning on reading the book? What do you think about it being made into a movie? Comments below!

  1. Id love to see a film adaption of Origin but also afraid of it ultimately ruining everything that I have come to know and visualize as the way I see it in the book itself.
    But that always happens.

Hunger games was alright and essentially true to the book but it was just too short to be complete.
Which in my humble opinion-ruined it! :(

Cant wait to see Origin on the big screen though! Just the same
    .... lol...
