Poster Reveal - Oz: The Great and Powerful

Oz-halfposterThey're remaking Wizard of Oz? Yes. Sort of. If you haven't heard, L. Frank Baum's classic will be getting an on-screen prequel. James Franco stars as Oz along with Mila Kunis as Theodora and Michelle Williams as Glinda. The poster for Oz: The Great and Powerful has just been released by Entertainment Weekly. Read more to see the full-sized poster and bonus casting trivia!

I'm looking forward to a prequel because I absolutely adore Wizard of Oz. I've read nearly all of Baum's stories about the magical world, and seeing it on screen, even weird SyFy adaptations (remember Tin Man?), makes me happy. Though, this could easily be a bad idea. I'm hoping Raimi will deliver.

Bonus: Since I didn't make this film into a "Books into Movies" feature while it was in production, here's some cool casting trivia from IMDB

Robert Downey Jr. and Johnny Depp were both offered the role of Oz. Blake Lively was offered to play Glinda but chose Oliver Stone's Savages instead. (Savages actually comes out this weekend).

So what do you think? Are you happy about a Great and Powerful prequel? Or is it destined for failure?

  1. This looks AMAZING. Even if it's a bad movie, I'm still super excited and will probably see it a zillion times. :)

  2. I didn't know they were making this. I have high hopes for it. I liked Syfy's version but I think their Alice in Wonderland remake was better. My favorite remake would have to be Wicked the musical !

  3. Ohh, so pretty! I can't wait till this movie comes out. So many of my favorite actresses are supplying voices for the characters. (The witches etc.)
