Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins may not only be one of my favorite books of the year, but my favorite paranormal romance...ever! So I am thrilled to introduce the wonderful Wendy Higgins to Nawanda Files for a little Q&A about her fabulous novel! Haven't heard about Sweet Evil, check out the blurb below and my review, which I gave it 5/5 Rockets!

Embrace the Forbidden

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences? This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.

Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She’s aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but Anna, the ultimate good girl, has always had the advantage of her angel side to balance the darkness within. It isn’t until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He’s the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

Without further ado, I'd like to welcome Wendy Higgins!

What inspired you to write Sweet Evil?
There's not one particular thing I can pinpoint--it was really an accumulation of everything throughout my life: relationships, experiences, things I've seen, books I've read, my spirituality, heartbreaks...just everything.

How did you begin your writing career?
After I wrote the first draft for my book I uploaded most of it to a writing site called inkpop (which was since purchased by figment.com) and I began to receive and give critiques. After two months my story made it to the top five and was sent to a HarperCollins editor for review. A couple months later she contacted me asking to read the rest of the book. Five months later the publisher made an offer. Crazy, huh? Crazy.

All the characters have really great individual personalities. Was there a character you liked writing the most?
Because they’re all so different, they all have a fun quality to write. I’d say Kaidan is my favorite to write because he challenges me the most. It’s like we argue or something. I tweak his scenes more than any of the others. I rewrite his dialogue, motions, facial gestures, tone, etc over and over until I hear him say, “There. Bravo.” LOL

If you were a daughter of a Duke of Sin, which sin would you choose?
Well, I’m pretty boring these days, but back in my early 20’s I would have been in Anna’s shoes, which is why I chose to write about that vice for her (substance abuse). I was a bit of a party girl.

There are some great names in the book, Kaidan and Kopano to name a
couple. Was there any reasoning behind choosing such unique names?
No, honestly, I wish I had some deeper meaning, but I just looked through online “baby name sites” for different countries. I think boy names that start with “K” are sexy, so that’s how I ended up with Kaidan and Kopano.

Was there a particular scene that you enjoyed writing the most?
ALL of the kissing scenes. Any high tension between Anna and Kai.

Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Write what’s on your heart and don’t expect perfection of yourself. Write, revise, repeat.
If you love it, don’t let anything drag you away from it.

I’m crossing my fingers for a film/TV adaptation of Sweet Evil, so what is your favorite movie that was adapted from a book?I really enjoyed the Harry Potter movies (for the most part - of course no film adaptation can be perfect when you’re so in love with the book, lol), and The Hunger Games did a pretty
good job.

Thank you so much for your time, Wendy! Sweet Evil was one of my favorite novels of the year, and I can’t wait to read more of your wonderful work.
