Books into Movies: Catching Fire (Filming Starts, Beetee Cast, and Garrett Hedlund Talks Rumors)

catchingfire - square

There has been so much Catching Fire news since my last update. Beetee has been cast, Garrett Hedlund comes out to talk about why he turned down the role for Finnick, filming officially begins, and so...so much more! Continue reading for all the juicy details!

I'm a huge Garrett Hedlund fan. When I mean huge, I mean I've watched Four Brothers about nineteen times and I'm eagerly awaiting On the Road. So I was bummed when Sam Claflin was offered the role for Finnick because Garrett was one of my top favorite contenders. (I was secretly rooting for Hunter Parrish to earn the role). Recently, Hedlund sat down with MTV for an interview and he discusses why he turned it down.

To sum it up for those of you who can't watch the video. Hedlund has been working on On the Road when they approached him about the film. He explains, "everybody around me is flipping out about the books, and I didn't really have the time to sit down lately to read any book, not just 'Hunger Games.'" You can check out the entire written interview at MTV

It's official! Lionsgate sent out a press release that filming has begun September 10th. They are also holding a sweepstakes for fan who want to visit the set. Here's the info from the press release:

“THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE- Win a Trip to Set” will run September 10th through October 12th 2012, offering twelve lucky fans a chance to visit the set of the film and interact the with cast and crew.  To enter, fans based in the participating territories (the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Germany, France, Scandinavia, Russia, Israel, and  Japan) will upload a :30 second video of  their top question for the film’s cast. Additionally, “virtual” citizens of Panem will be able to enter by playing The Hunger Games Adventures – one of the top adventure games on Facebook and coming soon to iPad.  Full rules and regulations are posted on the contest Facebook tab, and at www.catchingfiresweeps.com.

The director, Francis Lawrence, made a video to discuss the sweepstakes (for those of you, like me, who are lazy readers). Sam Claflin is surprisingly one of the biggest tweeters of the cast. He tweeted the video below!

Jeffery Wright is confirmed as Beetee, the District 3 tribute. If you don't remember who the character is he was the other half to Wiress and affectionately referred to as "Volts" while Wiress got the "Nuts" part. Together they are "Nuts and Volts". He's also a good guy, joining leagues with Katniss and gang in the Quarter Quell.

Wright's most notable roles have been in Casino Royale and Source Code. For the most part, he's a much smaller name actor than the ones that have been cast.

Since filming has begun Jennifer Lawrence is a brunette again! I've seen different photos of her the new color, some better than others.

Now here are photos via fans from twitter. Take note these are twitters from fans, not the real Jennifer Lawrence. She doesn't have a twitter.

I'm still not a fan of J. Lawrence with that long straight brunette hair. But I do think she's one of the most beautiful people in Hollywood. What do you think of her brown her? Do you think she looks better blonde?

What do you think? Excited for filming to begin? I'm definitely going to be checking out where in Atlanta they are filming since I live in Georgia! I'm telling you, it's becoming the Hollywood of the South!

  2. I can't recall ever seeing Garrett Hedlund in anything but just by a looks-standpoint I SO want him to be Finnick instead of Sam. I'm wicked bummed he turned it down! Just wait, once the 4 movies have ended and they've gained a lot of money and even more popularity; there will be interviews with Garrett where he talks about regrets over not taking the role when offered. Haha.

I don't mind J.L. with dark hair but I think it kind of makes her look older vs. her blond.
