Books into Movies: Divergent (Potential Cast - Evan Peters & Shailene Woodley)

Since American Horror Story: Asylum premiered this week, I thought it would be fitting to write a post about Evan Peters, my favorite actor in AHS. In an interview with VH1, Evan Peters revealed that he has the script for Divergent....and Delirium! Those are two popular YA books in the works for adaptation.   On the Tris casting front, Deadline reported that Shailene Woodley is in talks to play the coveted female lead. Continue reading for more details!

You may recognize Evan Peters as the nerdy sidekick from Never Back Down and Kick Ass, but in his most recent project American Horror Story, he has jumped to the leading roles. He's a great actor, which is why I'm so excited that he even has the scripts for a YA adaptation.

Divergent has a release date set for March 24, 2014 so the producers have time some time before they make definitive decisions. Although, they did say that filming would begin later this year. So it's always fun to hypothesize who will play the coveted roles of Tris and Four.

If Evan Peters was to sign on to the movie, who would he play? Lets take a closer look at the potential characters.

Four: The male lead who is the love interest of Tris. He's Dauntless, a leader, and practically fearless. He's described as "quite tall, dark short hair, and beautiful deep blue eyes."

Caleb Prior: Tris' older brother. He's intelligent and only appears in short scenes in the book. He's described as having "green eyes and dark hair."

Peter: The villain of the book. He's basically an asshole. And described as "muscular and tall with shiny dark hair and dark green eyes."

Will: Tris' friend. He's a love interest for Christina and good-natured. He's described as having "blond hair and a crease between his eyebrows."

Al: A character infatuated with Tris. He's not into the violence of Dauntless. (Also, my least favorite character in the book)

So who would Evan Peters play? Are you an Evan Peters fan? He actually has brown hair in real life, so I don't think that's an issue. I can't see him playing Peter because that role looks like it would go to someone more muscular. Honestly, I think he would be a really great Four. But I know many people would disagree with me.

Shailene Woodley is in talks to play Tris and that is much more definitive than where Evan Peters is at in the process. I'm not sure if she's what I had in mind for Tris, but I think she could pull it out.

What character do you think Evan Peters should play? What do you think about Shailene Woodley? Who is your dream cast for Tris and Four? Sound off below!

  1. Love me some Evan Peters! I think he could totally pull off Peter! He would have to work out a little bit, but he does have excellent facial expressions and I think it would be great to see him in a role as a bad boy.

And I think Shailene Woodley is a great actress! I loved The Descendants and she definitely had the ability to channel emotions through her work. I can totally imagine her doing the "I'm virginal" scenes as Tris. But I can definitely also see her doing the first daring scene where she jumps into the entrance for the Dauntless newbies. They'd have to change up her hair color a little, but I'm in full support. I don't usually have a problem with actors that are chosen for novel adaptions. I'm usually pleasantly surprised at the final outcome, so I don't put too much thought into the actors. I HATED Jennifer Lawrence for Katniss, and it was because of her hair color. But J. Lawrence is the most down to earth actor and she plays a great Katniss. Sometimes looks throw us off, but the great thing about looks is that we can change them drastically to meet our needs (or a characters description).

    Thanks for sharing!

  2. I don't think Shailene Woodley is a right fit for Tris. If she gets the role then I would like to see how well she could pull it off.

  3. Evan Peters cannot be Four without some seriously skilled makeup arists. He doesn't look brooding enough. Shailene Woodley would be a good Tris, if she's short enough. Caleb might look like Even Peters, as might Will and Al, but those two are much shakier propositions.

  4. I just don't see how SW can be Tris. First off, she's too tall! Tris is supposed to be this tiny little thing. Secondly, she's supposed to become this badass heroine. I just can't picture SW in that way, but I'm open to having my mind changed. I don't want to be one of those people who whine about every little thing. LOL.

Evan Peters cannot be Four, but maybe he can be a good Eric or Peter?

  5. I think Evan Peters could pull off any role and he can be Four if he were to be cast. However, Shailene Woodley.. I hope she isn't cast. Yeah, I've watched some of her work in TSLotAT and that George Clooney film and I don't think she's a horrible actress, but ugh.. I just cannot imagine her as Tris. Also, as the others pointed out, my first thought was her height as well. Tris is pictured as the tiniest thing and it's one of the main things about this story as the others can't see Tris as a threat since she is such a small tiny little thing and therefore people underestimate her a lot. So yeah.. I don't think she'd be a great choice.

  7. I definitely love Evan Peters. I don't see him as Four, but definitely Will. I'm a bit concerned about Shailene... I think Secret Life is one of the most horribly acted shows on TV right now so I don't really have anything to go on except for the other film I saw Shailene in "Felicity" when she was like ten. Hmm...
