Giveaway: Support the YA Book Exchange!

So I recently talked about how I have made a new site: YA Book Exchange. You can read the last post for more details.

I decided to hold giveaways for the YA Book Exchange to increase participation. My plan is for every 100 or so entries of books for trade, I'll have another giveaway. To kick it off I'll be giving away a book from a winner's wishlist. To make it interesting I'm going to pick a book off the list at random, so the book is a surprise in the mail!

It's not a requirement to participate in the YA Book Exchange to enter. Although, more participation means more giveaways in the future.

  4. Ohhh, I think it's a fantastic idea! I've read the policies on being a trader and trading books, and I'm definitely interested. I'm moving to the States in December so I may wait until I'm settled before I start trading, but I definitely will at some point =D

  5. Great idea! I just left a comment/question on your site asking about disclosing the condition of the book - I saw that was included in the description and that may save some e-mailing. There would just have to be a solid rating system for the books.

I currently trade books using swap.com (username: leannesf) if anyone else is interested in trading there too!

    Thanks,
    Leanne

  13. Checked out the site, it's awesome! Postage is really expensive here in South Africa, so unfortunately it's unlikely that I'd use the site, but I think it's wonderfully done.

  18. I'm an active book-swapper on three sites, including BookMooch, and I'm located internationally, so here's my opinion:

A very neat site design, and it's very useful that the site is for YA only, but it'll be good only for someone who wants to trade only a few books and doesn't mind waiting a long time before their book gets listed and requested for trade. You should consider somehow to add automatic book listing, as it will speed things up and you won't have to add every book yourselves (what if your site gets more users than now?).

A possibility to browse books and traders by country would be very useful.

Advertise the fact that the site is international more obviously, maybe right under the site title. I had to search for some time before I found out if it's international or US only. But there will probably be no members outside US/Can/UK anyway, due to high shipping costs.

In the future, book cover images will have to be smaller, if 'books for trade' lists become longer.

    1. Thanks for all your suggestions! Right now the site is designed to be focused for YA bloggers and people in the YA community. It's more of a niche site than the big powerhouses like BookMooch and Swap.com. So people who want to swap with other people in the community or build some blogger connections can use it. We're not thinking it will ever become something like BookMooch. Its more focused. And we want people to feel like they can trust the people they are trading with.

I am planning on adding an international tag when someone offers to ship internationally, but that might not happen because (like you said) the high shipping costs.

And where you're talking about the book cover images being smaller to fit on the list, you can click Older Posts and it will take you to more books. I may change that to say More Books though. It's also why we included browsing functions.

Thanks again for all your wonderful ideas. We're taking everyone's suggestions into consideration for sure!

    2. Oh and I forgot to mention about the wait time to get listed. Since it's run by my sister and I, the wait time for listing is in between 10-60 minutes. So it's not too bad. In the early stages it's going to take longer for people to get their books requested just because less people will be using the site. Our hopes is that people will start using it for their YA trades so books can circulate around the YA community and get more use! (But you don't have to have a blog or anything to participate - merely being online, using the site, and reading YA is enough)

    3. @Krista, 10-60 mins is totally doable for us...considering I'm an internet Junkie. I'm pretty sure I check my email like every hour, at least, lol.

Hopefully people won't feel like there's an incredibly long lag between offering a book for trade and seeing it on the site. We also make sure the person is reputable and not spamming it up.

  19. GREAT idea! I trade books at Paperback Swap and love it. Problem is it usually takes a long time for new releases (unless you wish list them REALLY early.)I think it's great to have a site to go to for strictly YA.

I'm going to start compiling a list of books for trade, and updating my GR wishlist, and join in for sure:)

  21. Nice site and good design! Like other replies, I also trade books on paperbackswap and bookmooch. I also used swap.com in the past, but their site changed and it's just weird now. Anyhow, I don't have much to trade with right now, but when I get caught up on my reading I'll add some :)
