Gets A Director:

Monument 14 by Emmy Laybourne

Director: Brad Peyton (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island)

Fourteen kids. One superstore. A million things that go wrong.

In Emmy Laybourne’s action-packed debut novel, six high school kids (some popular, some not), two eighth graders (one a tech genius), and six little kids trapped together in a chain superstore build a refuge for themselves inside. While outside, a series of escalating disasters, beginning with a monster hailstorm and ending with a chemical weapons spill, seems to be tearing the world—as they know it—apart.

Monument 14 gets a director! Brad Peyton is known for Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 and 3. The production company is also involved in a lot of animated movies like Shrek. I don't know how that will play out for the film, but it definitely looks promising!

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone, #1)

Producers:  Universal Pictures
Director: Joe Roth
Goodreads Rating: 4.10 (35,652 ratings)
Publication Date: September 27th, 2011
Publisher: Little Brown & Company
Genre: Fantasy

Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.

When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?

Another director has been chosen! Joe Roth has been hired to direct. It also seems like the production company is set on pumping this film out quickly. Not surprising considering the hype centered around the book. He hasn't directed that many films but he's been a producer for some of the biggies like Alice and Wonderland and Snow White & The Huntsman.

Gets A Writer:

Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1)

Producers:  Preger Entertainment and Don Murphy
Writer: Daniel Waters (Heathers)
Goodreads Rating: 4.21 (123,115 ratings)
Publication Date: August 16th, 2007
Publisher: Razorbill
Genre: Paranormal

St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s—the very place where they’re most in danger...

Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires—make Lissa one of them forever.

A script has been penned by Daniel Waters! He's known for Heathers, which might be one of my all time favorite eighties movies ever, ever, ever! So I'm thrilled that he was the choice for screenwriter. He also wrote Batman Returns. So he's got some great older films under his belt.

"Dan has written a brilliant screenplay for "Vampire Academy," producer Don Murphy stated. "Smart and funny, clever and really a great read—it is going to make a terrific film."

Reboot by Amy Tintera

Reboot (Reboot, #1)

Producers:  Fox 2000 and Chernin Entertainment
Writer: Lindsay Devlin
Goodreads Rating: 4.06 (16 ratings)
Publication Date: May 7th, 2013
Publisher: HarperTeen
Genre: Dystopia

Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders.

The book hasn't even come out yet and it's already being adapted! That's pretty impressive. I think it sounds like a pretty great dystopian, so hopefully it won't disappoint. Lindsay Devlin is signed on to write, but she doesn't have very much experience. Fox 2000 is a huge studio though, so it seems like it has a big backing!

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

So this movie adaptation is already well into filming and is set to release August 23rd. A teaser trailer was released a couple months ago and now a new image still of Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace has been revealed!!

Okay, so obviously there were so many books into movies news. Where do I even begin? The most surprising is how quickly The Daughter of Smoke and Bone is carrying on. I think that the movie will definitely make it to the big screen. I haven't read the book yet, but my sister has and really enjoyed it!

I'm most excited for Vampire Academy because I LOVE the book and LOVE the screenwriter. I actually would have preferred a TV show instead of a movie, but this will never happen because we already have The Vampire Diaries. I'll take what I can get!

I'm planning on reading both Monument 14 and Reboot but I'm less hopeful that these two will ever make it to screen. They both look amazing, but there are too many YA adaptations in the works for just another dystopian. I have my fingers crossed though!

Lastly, there's The Mortal Instruments. Of course I'm thrilled for this and slowly, but steadily, I'm becoming okay with the idea that Jamie Campbell Bower is Jace.

Have you read any of these books? Which one would you want to see to the most Excited for more adaptations? Thoughts below!

  1. Monument 14 would make a great movie! Didn't even know that was in the works. DYING DYING For Vampire Academy movie so I'm glad there is finally a writer and things are moving. Reboot sounds like an awesome book and I could see it making a great movie.

    1. I"M dying for a VA movie as well. Really anything VA related and I would be happy! Thanks for stopping by :D

  2. I could never get into Vampire Academy series, but seeing as how the screenwriter also wrote Heathers, I'll definitely be at the theater when it comes out.

I'm also looking forward to the other adaptions, although it's a small pet peeve of mine when a book that hasn't been released yet gets their movie rights picked up. There's been a few instances when a book gets publicity for a movie/TV show before it's published and we haven't even had a chance to BUY the book yet. Although I shouldn't, it makes me think the people involved are just in it for the money and fame, not the readership and their enjoyment of a good story.

Annnddd the movie still. I've never been a fan of Jamie Campbell Bower (shorten your name for petes sake!), as the roles he's chosen are usually bland. But when he has to step up to the plate as one of the main characters of the movie, I think he'll surprise us.

    Thanks for sharing!! :)

    1. Yeah, I never know how I feel about books getting picked up for movies and TV before they are even published. It makes me have high expectations for them and I'm usually disappointed.

He DOES need to shorten his name LOL! I was tempted just to write JCB to make it easier. I hope he does surprise everyone and is actually very good.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts :D

  3. So many great books becoming movies! So many great books I need to read before they're movies! :D

*Mila 2.0 is being adapted into an ABC show too!

    1. I didn't know about Mila 2.0 O_O. I need to check that out for sure! ABC Family has been picking up SOOO many YA Books this year. I'm hoping one of them makes it to the screen. Thanks for letting me know, Lauren!!

  4. I have to tell you, I wasn't crazy about Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace. But that picture of him is smokin hot. Seriously, smokin hot. I might be changing my mind!

  5. All of these sound so, so great! I am also a HUGE fan of the VA series (thanks to Miss Lauren, The Book Slayer) and so I am head over heels excited for a movie!

I actually met the author of Monument 14 and she was really great. The book wasn't for me but she was hilarious and really sweet. I've heard great things about this one too!
