Big news on the TV adaptation front! I Hunt Killers by Barry Lyga is in development at ABC Family. This is the fourth TV show adaptation from a YA book that's been put in the works this year. ABC Family has had success with Pretty Little Liars so it seems like they're trying to reproduce that magic with Barry Lyga's novel. Continue reading for more details!

What if the world's worst serial killer...was your dad?

Jasper "Jazz" Dent is a likable teenager. A charmer, one might say.

But he's also the son of the world's most infamous serial killer, and for Dear Old Dad, Take Your Son to Work Day was year-round. Jazz has witnessed crime scenes the way cops wish they could—from the criminal's point of view. And now bodies are piling up in Lobo's Nod.

In an effort to clear his name, Jazz joins the police in a hunt for a new serial killer. But Jazz has a secret—could he be more like his father than anyone knows?

More Details & My Thoughts

So I haven't read I Hunt Killers, but I've been wanting to for some time now! It has an amazing plot and really great reviews so far. Now there is actually a major change that the TV show will make when adapting from the book. In the book, the main character is the son of a serial killer. In the show, the main character will be a daughter of a serial killer! I'm not sure if I like the change just because TV shows are saturated with female leads (Pretty Little Liars, Vampire Diaries, Revolution, etc.) and it would have been nice if they kept that the same. I also think it tarnishes an adaptation because a father-son relationship is completely different than a father-daughter one. But this is also coming from someone who hasn't read the books yet, so I'm keeping an open mind! It also does make sense demographically for ABC Family's decisions just because they are targeting a female audience.

Regardless of the change ups, I do believe that this would be one stellar TV Show. It's like Dexter for teenagers...kind of ;) I'll be excited if it gets made and I'm already notching it up on my growing TBR pile.

What Do You Think?

What do you think? Have you read I Hunt Killers? Would you like the change-up from a male protagonist (in the book) to a female protagonist (in the show)? Sound off below!

  1. Pretty much anything that was adapted from a novel, I will watch eventually. I like to wait until the end of the season and just watch them all in a 6 or 7 hour marathon. It's like a really long movie!

I think the idea to switch up the male lead to a female is interesting. I think Dexter has the father-son dynamic down, (although I haven't seen past season 5), it'll be different to see how the father-daughter relationship plays out when the father is a serial killer ... talk about a new level of over-protective father!!

  2. I loved the book, but daughter? No, no, no. Just no.

  3. Huh! I haven't heard of this book or ABC Family's interest in it. I like the sound of it though. As far away from shows like Secret Life of an American Teenager, the better. Haha!

  4. I wonder why they want to make it a girl, I guess to cater to girls but they act like people only watch shows if the protagonist is the same sex as them.

Any who this is exciting, I haven't read the book either but it's definitely only list!

  5. Hm. I haven't read this book yet either, but I want to. It seems like there's a lot of books into TV/Movies recently. Especially on the movies side. I probably will most likely end up watching this one :)

  6. Have the book but I haven't finished it yet. The news of this made me want to finish the book but changing it from a boy to a girl? I don't get the point? Why do that? That makes me disinclined to want to watch it. I despise it when they change the sex of characters. Maybe it's just the fact I despise a lot of female characters, even being female myself. I don't know. The fact it's a guy makes it more interesting to me. A girl? Not so much. Maybe its because there is already Dexter? I don't know but I really don't like the change they're making... was totally going to watch it but now? I probably won't. Ah well.

  7. I have just finished I Hunt Killers and enjoyed it very much. I read it in two days, well, it would've taken longer but I woke up last night and read for more than an hour. It gets in your head.

Good characters, good story, great ending.
