Blog Hiatus! We'll be back in January!

Hi lovelies! Obviously you may have noticed that Becca and I have been posting less and less lately. Our New Adult book ADDICTED FOR NOW just released Nov. 30th, and we're both writing two more books for Jan/Feb releases.

In addition to writing, we're busy this Holiday with family and so it's just unfeasible to keep up with Nawanda Files during the holidays. Because you know, we want to be able to have time to do things like this...

But we're planning to be back in action in January with lots of reviews. So this is definitely a temporary hiatus (our first one ever!). And we're also hoping to get a new blog design for the new year, since it will be our 2nd year blogging in January. So we'll have some changes in 2014.

It's not goodbye. Just a see you later ;)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine spotlighting upcoming releases that readers are eagerly anticipating

The Half Life of Molly Pierce
by Katerina Leno
Publisher: Harper Teen
Release Date: July 8th, 2014

A mysterious and visceral page-turner about a seventeen-year-old girl who unravels the secrets of her alternate personality, reminiscent of the film Memento.

You live and you remember.
Me, I live and I forget.
But now-now I am remembering.

For all of her seventeen years, Molly feels like she's missed bits and pieces of her life. Molly suffers from dissociative identity disorder, and since she was a little girl, she's played host to Mabel, a completely separate and individual personality. When Mabel is in control, Molly experiences the blackouts she's been so scared of. But now Mabel is letting Molly in on her secrets; she's letting Molly remember. And in doing so, Molly uncovers the separate life she seems to have led...and the love that she can't let go.

The Half Life of Molly Pierce is a suspenseful, evocative psychological mystery about uncovering the secrets of our pasts, facing the unknowns of our futures, and accepting our whole selves.

Cover Reveal + Giveaway: Return to You by Julie Cross

Return to You
by Julie Cross
Series: Letters to Nowhere #3
Release Date: December 15th, 2013
Publisher: Long Walk Press
How many dreams can you chase at once?

Even with bad boy, TJ, disrupting their morning workouts, Karen and Stevie’s daily battles with each other are sure to bring both of them closer to a national title at next month’s championships. It’s the kind of feud that creates winning results.

Until a fall from the uneven bars shakes Karen’s rock-solid confidence. Not only does she balk every time she so much as attempts a routine, she’s also facing all this without much support from Jordan. After receiving some bad news, Jordan’s reluctance to listen to reason causes Karen so much frustration she begins to avoid him, needing space to deal with her own issues. He needs someone to force him to make the right choice, he needs his dad to intervene and Karen knows this, but is torn between her loyalty to Jordan and her concern for her coach’s son. Even though both paths lead to the same person—Jordan—it feels like she’s choosing between two different people.

And then there’s the growing tension between TJ and Stevie. They’re obviously on the verge of either ripping each other’s heads off or ripping each other’s clothes off. It’s hard for either Jordan or Karen to tell where those two are headed. Tension is building from every possible outlet and there’s bound to be an explosion of some kind in the very near future.

This series is one of my favorites in contemporary. Gymnastic, love, and loss. It's powerful and sexy all the same time. Here's the cover for the newest book in the series: Return to You.

Out of all the books in the series, this has to be my favorite cover! The guy looks exactly how I picture Jordan, and...he's pretty hot ;)

Blog Tour + Giveaway: These Broken Stars by Amy Kaufman and Meagan Spooner

These Broken Stars
by Amy Kaufman & Meagan Spooner
Series: Starbound #1
Release Date: December 10th, 2013
Publisher: Disney Hyperion

It's a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.

Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they’re worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.

Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here forever?

Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won’t be the same people who landed on it.

I'm so excited to have Amy and Meagan on Nawanda Files today! And they're here to discuss the outfits from their GORGEOUS cover!! Also be sure to continue reading for a chance to win These Broken Stars and some cool swag.

There’s no question that we owe our cover designer, the hugely talented Whitney Manger, a huuuuuuge debt of gratitude. We honestly had no idea what the cover of These Broken Stars was going to look like, but from the moment we saw the first comps, we knew we were in expert hands.

As if we needed any extra reassurance, the amazing team at Hyperion showed how committed they were to getting it right when they asked us to send through as much information as we could on the characters’ appearances, so they could be sure to get it right. You do see covers sometimes where the characters just don’t look right at all—not just unlike the way you imagined them, but literally wearing the wrong things, or with the wrong hair color, or worse. We went to work arming our wonderful design team with everything they needed to get it right!

Lilac’s part of the upper class, and they go through historical fads almost as often as they brush their teeth. At the moment our story starts, faux-Victorian is all the rage, so Lilac’s dress has plenty of volume. Of course, a smart girl like Lilac isn’t going to let herself be bound up or slowed down by any of the practicalities of a genuine Victorian dress, and there’s no need, since nobody really knows what they should look like anyway.

Find Me

I adore the Elemental series, but the covers confuse me. None of the four guys look like the Merrick brothers, and the guy in blue (who I assume is Chris) looks adopted compared to the others. And there are supposed to be identical twins. No, none of those guys are identical. This missed the mark in terms of capturing the essence of the book and the characters.

We're Going to YALL Fest! Will You Be There?

We're going to the Young Adult Book Festival this Saturday at Charleston!! If any of you lovely readers/bloggers will be there you may spot us. We're identical twins so we're kind of hard to miss :)

Becca and I are so excited to attend this fest. There are so many great authors attending (even Veronica Roth!). Here are the authors and panels we're most looking forward to:

Twin Takedown: Ender's Game Movie Review

twintakedownbutton - plus border
Who says all twins have the same opinion? Twin Takedown is a feature at Nawanda Files where my twin and I review the same book. We don't always agree. Spoilers are like landmines in this review. Beware.

Ender's Game
Release Date: November 1st, 2013
Actors: Asa Butterfield, Harrison Ford
Director: Gavin Hood
Genre: Action, Adventure
Rating: PG-13
Current Location: In Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes: 61% - FRESH

The International Military seek out a leader who can save the human race from an alien attack. Ender Wiggin, a brilliant young mind, is recruited and trained to lead his fellow soldiers into a battle that will determine the future of Earth.

Krista: Unlike Becca, I've never read Ender's Game. So my take on the movie is purely from the movie standpoint. I can't really say how well it was adapted, so Becca will take care of that commentary :)

Becca: But I read Ender's Game when I was about ten. And I never reread the book, so my knowledge is fuzzy at best. I do remember some scenes quite well though.

Krista: Going into this movie, I didn't have many expectations. Compared to other YA movie adaptions, this one seems far less hyped. But let me tell you, it's one that you should really check out if you have the time. Now, let's get into review--twin takedown style.

Books into Movies [141]: Casting, Posters, and more!

A reoccurring feature at Nawanda Files that covers the latest news on book into movie adaptations. Features casting, filming, post-production news and more!

With a February release date, Vampire Academy is gearing up with more promotion. Fandango made a list of "9 Secrets of Vampire Academy." Here are my two favorites:
The film nearly didn’t happen. When the project came to producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford at the height of Twilight’s popularity, they resisted reading Richelle Mead’s books, fearing vampire overkill. When their fellow producer Michael Preger wore them down, they realised what they’d missed. “Eventually we read it, and it was amazing. We knew we had to be involved in it,” says Murphy. And anyway, vampires are immortal, adds Montford: “So there is no vampire overkill!” glad they read the book! It's nothing like Twilight (except, you know, the vampires). Hopefully it will translate well on screen.

Blog Tour (Interview + Giveaway): If Only We by Jessica Sankiewicz

If Only We
by Jessica Sankiewicz
Release Date: October 27th, 2013
Publisher: Amazon Digital Services, Inc.

They say all it takes is one wrong move and you lose the game. One false step and you’re trapped. One slip-up in your choice of words and you ruin a friendship forever. That is what they say. They say I lost.

I do not believe them.

At the end of the summer after graduation, Adrienne wonders what happened to cause her life to be in ruins. She isn’t getting along with her mom, her stepsister isn’t talking to her, and, to top it off, the boy she’s been in love with doesn’t want anything to do with her. She believes the turning point was a choice she made at graduation. When she wakes up the next day, she has been transported back three months to that moment, the one where everything started to fall apart.

Adrienne realizes she has been given a second chance—and this time she doesn’t want to mess anything up. Reliving the entire summer, though, turns out to be a lot harder than she thought. As the same days and weeks go by, she starts to see how simple decisions can make a huge impact on the world around her. Despite knowing some of what lies ahead, there are some things she didn’t anticipate. She thought she knew what mistake led her to where she ended up the first time. She was wrong.

And by the time summer is over, she discovers what was really at stake.

I'm so excited to have Jessica Sankiewicz at Nawanda Files today! She's a well-known blogger over at Thoughts at One in the Morning, and she's here to answer some questions about her recently published novel If Only We, which I cannot wait to read!

What can readers expect from your novel If Only We?

A range of emotion and hopefully an eye-opening experience. It's not just about time travel or second chances—it makes you think about choices you make.

TV Pilots in Review: Reign

We're reviewing six new 2013 pilots this Fall TV season! We'll be dishing about the good, the bad, and the hotties on the small screen. Twin Takedown style, of course ;)

Network: CW
Premiere Date: October 18th
Air Date: Thursdays 9/8c

Chronicles the rise to power of Mary Queen of Scots (Kane) when she arrives in France as a 15-year-old, betrothed to Prince Francis, and with her three best friends as ladies-in-waiting. It details the secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue.

Before the show, I remained skeptical that the CW could do a historical show. I mean, the production value has to be spot on, and how do you make a chaste time-period into something sexy? The CW seemed to prove me wrong on every aspect, so much so that this was my favorite pilot this year.

Becca: I agree. There was a lot that could go wrong. CW and horses? I don't think that's ever been done before. Castles? This isn't a WB backlot. How much is this going to cost? Can they pull it off? Well, I'll give you a hint on our feelings. We watched this pilot back in June (when critics received a copy), and we watched it all again last night. And I never once wanted to fast-forward or shut off my tv, even though I had already watched it all before.

And I'll put this into perspective. We had previously seen The Tomorrow People, The Originals, and half of Once Upon a Time in Wonderland in June. When they premiered in October, we fast-forwarded TTP and OUAT. The Originals was kind of new from what we'd seen, so we watched it. But Reign wasn't that different. And yet, we felt compelled, entranced, addicted to watch the entire thing again. It's that good.
