divergentlarge crop What a surprise! Delirium by Lauren Oliver has progressed one more step in the process to become a network television series. What does this mean exactly? The script will be turned into a pilot! Actors will be chosen, sets will be constructed and the magic will happen. Now, this doesn't mean Delirium has a place on Fox's Fall '13 lineup yet, but the project is one step closer to a coveted spot. THEY SAY that the cure for Love will make me happy and safe forever. And I've always believed them. Until now.

Now everything has changed. Now, I'd rather be infected
with love for the tiniest sliver of a second than live a hundred years smothered by a lie.

Logline: “Based on bestselling trilogy about a world where love is deemed illegal and is able to be eradicated with a special procedure. With 95 days to go until her scheduled treatment, Lena Holoway does the unthinkable: She falls in love.”

Executive Producers: Peter Chernin (producer New Girl, Ben and Kate) and Katherine Pope

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I haven't actually read Delirium. Sadly, it's been sitting on my shelf for a long, long time. Those who've devoured the dystopian, what do you think about the book becoming a show? Are you rooting for it to land a spot in Fox's lineup? Or do you think the premise works better as a movie? Thoughts below!

  1. I have tried reading Delirium time and time again and I just could never get into it. I got to the same point each time and just had to stop. The last time I tried an audiobook, but that didn't get me too far either. I think that it's an interesting concept for a show and hopefully it's executed well.

    1. I tried to start reading it too, but I didn't get very far. Haven't tried again. I remember the hype was CRAZY when this first came out. Now, it seems to have died down. I agree, that the concept is pretty interesting, and Fox has been known to execute some good high concept projects :)

  2. Hm... To be honest, I'm not quite sure about this playing out on screen. Most of it is just running around to dates and hiding relationships, etc, with very little action. It worked fairly well in print, but on screen I'm afraid I'll be bored to tears.

    1. Maybe they'll just take the concept then and change up some things. FOX usually doesn't make boring shows (usually, being the key word).

  3. I would definitely think it would work much better as a movie... I never understand how they get the idea in their head that it could be a TV show for some of these series. For certain ones it just doesn't work. Not that I won't watch it to see how they manage changing it to fit a television series. ;) I loved the book so I am very curious and excited to see any live action development!

    1. I'm gonna make a guess here (since I haven't read the books), but most of the time television series take the concept and just roll with it. They don't stay as true to the plot. I'm thinking of The Vampire Diaries, of course. They changed a lot of the characters and relationships -- which all worked out. TVD is fantastic :) It's interesting to hear that Delirium would be a better film than a show.

  4. Honestly TV adaptations never really are similar to the book. The Vampire Diaries changed up a bunch of the characters and didn't even follow the plot line. Same with Secret Circle (I think). It's just too difficult to stay true to. Book over 22 episodes. That's like 11 movies!! For Delirium Im not even sure if they would have teens as the protagonists. They could make the show geared towards adults (not surprising since its on FOX). I haven't read the books, but I'm looking forward to see how it will diverge from the original source material if it makes it to series.

  5. Basically....I'm nervous about anything they do to this book for the screen. Whether movie or TV show, they do it right, or else: DEATH.

This book being one of my all-time favorites, EVER, I'm a bit protective. Not that they couldn't do it, movie or TV show, but it would take serious dedication to the story and what the fans want. I really hope they do it right. Because if they make it into a good TV show, I will watch it whole-heartedly, and be completely enraptured and be sucked in like a couch potato who never sees the light of day.

    Please, please do it right.

  6. I want it the same yet also different. I'm hoping they'll play on Delirium's strengths and then improve on its weaknesses. If they were to gear it towards late teens/college students I wouldn't mind. But I really don't want it to be adults mostly because there's few "adult" shows I like. Overall: I'm excited!
