Ranking the 6 CW Pilots In-Development

The CW has already ordered The Selection for pilot again this 2013-2014 TV season. Surprisingly  they have chosen another YA book to be adapted to pilot. Kass Morgan's The Hundred has been ordered for development. Very shocking considering the book isn't even scheduled to release until Spring 2014! Continue reading for details on The Hundred and how I'd rank the pilots at the CW

The Hundred by Kass Morgan Cass (In Development by The CW)

Kass Morgan's THE HUNDRED, following 100 teenagers with dark secrets, who leave their homes -- enormous, city-like spaceships -- to recolonize a barely recognizable Earth, only to discover they cannot escape their pasts, to Elizabeth Bewley at Little, Brown Children's, and Kate Howard andHarriet Bourton at Hodder & Stoughton, in a two-book deal, for publication in Spring 2014 and Fall 2014, by Sara Shandler and Joelle Hobeika at Alloy Entertainment (World English).

Logline: “Set 97 years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization. A spaceship housing the lone human survivors sends 100 juvenile delinquents back to Earth to investigate the possibility of re-colonizing the planet."

Executive Producers/Creator: Jason Rothenberg

My Thoughts: I find this news very surprising considering The Hundred is not even close to releasing in the book world. It's also MIA on goodreads and I couldn't even seem to find a website for the author. It makes me wonder how closely adapted the TV show would be. Probably not very close. I think the most they could use is the overall premise and then quickly diverge from whatever is in the text. Considering, if this does get picked up it will be airing Fall 2013, again before the book is released!

I still think the premise is very interesting, and if done correcting it could be great!

More Pilots in Development at The CW

It's no secret that Becca and I are obsessed with the CW, so we'll be keeping updates on all the pilots ordered this season. Later we'll make predictions on what will officially be chosen for series. So here are the pilots ordered so far:

Logline: "Charts Mary Queen of Scots’ rise to power when she arrives in France as a 15-year-old, betrothed to Prince Francis, and with her three best friends as ladies-in-waiting. It details the secret history of survival at French Court amidst fierce foes, dark forces, and a world of sexual intrigue."

Executive Producers: Laurie McCarthy (Windfall) and Stephanie Sengupta (Ghost Whisperer)

My Thoughts: I like the overall premise, but it's doubtful that both The Selection and Reign will be chosen to air. Both have costumes with Princes and Queens, so they will be competing for a spot as series. At this point, it looks like The Selection has better chances.

Logline: "An epic romance between a human girl and an alien boy when he and eight others of his kind are integrated into a suburban high school 10 years after they landed on Earth and were consigned to an internment camp."

Executive Producers:  Richard Shepard (Ringer), Scott Rosenberg (Happy Town), and Sean Furst

My Thoughts: This is one of my top favorites ordered for pilot. I love aliens, and anything returning to Rosewell is okay by me. A top contender in my opinion!

Logline: "A scandal at a Naval base in Virginia touches the lives of both civilians and military personnel in the area, launching us into a multigenerational, multi-class, family and relationship series centered around two early twentysomething women who grew up together, were once best friends, but now are on opposite sides of the Townie/Military divide."

Executive Producers:  Sera Gamble (Supernatural)

My Thoughts: Not really feeling this premise compared to the others. The CW is really looking for high concepts this season since the other shows they have (90210, The Carrie Diaries) aren't really doing well. This seems like it would flatline on air. It really depends on the cast. Also, Sera Gamble was creator of Supernatural  for seasons 6 and 7 (I believe) and those were some of my least favorite seasons of all time. Outlook: bleak.

Logline: "A spinoff of the CW's The Vampire Diaries revolving around the Original family in New Orleans. In the episode, Klaus returns to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans, a town he helped build centuries ago, and is reunited with his diabolical former protégé Marcel."

Executive Producers:  Julie Plec (The Vampire Diaries)

Cast: Joseph Morgan (Klaus), Pheobe Tonkin (Haley), Daniel Gillies (Elijah)

My Thoughts: Honestly, I wouldn't care what made it to series as long as they pick up this show. I LOVE the Originals. They are the best part of The Vampire Diaries. Major news this week that Daniel Gillies has signed on to play Elijah! He's one of the most beloved Originals. All we need now is Rebekah and Kol!

How I'd Rank Them:

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

What do you think of The Hundred? How do you rank the pilots on the CW? Excited for a spin-off of The Vampire Diaries? Sound off Below!!

  1. Oooh I hadn't heard of Oxygen! I loved Roswell so I hope this one gets to air! As for the Originals heck yes! I hope that one airs as well. Anything to see more of Elijah. :D

  2. The Selection as in Kiera Cass? I tried to read that book but couldn't get through it. It would be so interesting to see how it would be done. I love the CW, too. I kind of dont like the idea of having a show dedicated to the Originals. I love, love them but they belong in TVD. I hope they will continue to be regulars there.

  3. Loved this post, didn't know about those pilots.
My top show would also be The Originals, followed by The Selection, The Hundred, Oxygen, Reign and Company Town. Its similar to your picks, but Oxygen is not as high 'cause it has a very 'teen' vibe, afterall they are in high school. Also, kinda seems like a rip-off, I could swear it was an adaptation of I Am Number Four.

  4. My Pick: The Originals, The Selection, and Company Town (Sera Gamble, yes!). I'm wary about The Hundred, purely because it reminds me so much of Misfits by the logline. But I haven't read the script yet. And Oxygen, I like the concept (so very Roswell as Krista said), but like Luisa mentioned in the comments, I'm not sure I want to go back to high school. I think the CW is doing a good job branching away from the high school setting with high concepts like Cult and Arrow.

Reign could work depending on the actors and the plot, but that's a lot of "what ifs" in the air. I'm curious to see if they'll put anymore pilots through the development stage. But I have my fingers crossed for The Originals.

  5. I want Oxygen sooo bad. Every day I feel like I'm having a Roswell-withdrawal. We need some more aliens in our lives!

For some reason I'm just not as excited about The Originals. I love Klaus and I FLIPPIN love Elijah, but the concept itself just seems a little dry to me. I'm also just irked that there's this "potential" new show which means halfway through the end of TVD season 4 we already knew that the Klaus-Mystic Falls storyline is pretty much wrapping up. I don't like surprises ruined. :(

My picks: Oxygen, The Selection... & bring back Emily Owens. Lol!!
