Since there has been such great books into movies news and books into tv news, I thought I'd post something about Marni Bate's Awkward that got optioned back in October. The Disney Channel has their sights on making it a television movie! Who didn't love Disney Channel's movies growing up? Continue reading for more details!

Awkward by Marni Bates (Optioned by The Disney Channel)

Awkward

Mackenzie Wellesley has spent her life avoiding the spotlight. At Smith High, she's the awkward junior people only notice when they need help with homework. Until she sends a burly football player flying with her massive backpack and makes a disastrous - not to mention unwelcome - attempt at CPR. Before the day is out, the whole fiasco explodes on YouTube. And then the strangest thing happens. Suddenly, Mackenzie is an Internet sensation, with four million hits and counting. Sucked into a whirlwind of rock stars, paparazzi, and free designer clothes, she even catches the eye of the most popular guy at school. And that's when life gets really interesting...

Logline: “Awkward is a romantic teen comedy featuring a girl whose embarrassing moment is captured by her high school classmates and goes viral on YouTube. Suddenly dubbed “America’s Most Awkward Girl”, Mackenzie Wellesley soon finds herself dodging both the paparazzi and the popular girls at school, even as America’s hottest boy rock band, ReadySet, transforms her moment of humiliation into a hit music video! But when Mackenzie’s rise in notoriety only pushes her farther away from the guy she’s falling for, she’ll find out just how steep the price of fame can be…”

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

While this is considered old news, I didn't find out about it until recently. I really love Disney Channel movies, and I'm super excited that Marni Bates' book got picked up. However, Disney Chanel isn't known to do the best adaptation for television movies. I'm talking about Meg Cabot's Avalon High. Let's hope Akward has a better fate.

What do you think? Have you read Awkward? Would you watch the Disney Channel television movie? Thoughts below!

  1. Ohhh, this looks interesting! I love Disney movies too! I'm that weirdo that will still watch family movies because they aren't screaming SEX VIOLENCE and DRUGS at you the whole time. And this sounds pretty cute... I can imagine Disney doing a great adaption of the book. It's quirky and sounds like a lot of fun!

  2. I haven't read this book but the premise sounds really cute! I totally see this becoming a Disney movie. I'm not a big fan of the newer ones, but I love 90s and early 2000 D-movies: Susie Q, Paper Brigade, Xenon Girl of the 21st Century, Halloweentown, etc.
