Earlier FOX ordered Delirium to pilot, now another YA book has been ordered to TV. That would be The Selection by The CW. Sound familiar? That's because this is the second time the CW has ordered Kiera Cass' book about a dystopian beauty/ marriage pageant. The first pilot was cast and filmed but ultimately passed on for series. Here's to hoping the second time is the charm! Continue reading for details!

The Selection by Kiera Cass (In Development by The CW)

The Selection (The Selection, #1)

For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in a palace and compete for the heart of gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself--and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

Logline: “Set 300 years in the future, an epic romance centering on a working class young woman chosen by lottery to participate in a competition with 25 other women for the Royal Prince’s hand to become the nation’s next queen. Balancing her loyalty to family, true love, and kingdom, she must attempt to remain true to herself as she navigates the cutthroat competition and palace intrigue, all while a budding rebellion threatens to topple the crown.”

Executive Producers/Writers: Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Not only have I read The Selection but so has Becca! We did a Twin Takedown because of our very different opinions. I thought it was a great, fun read! Becca...not so much. It's interesting to know that Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights) who was cast as America the first time around, is not attatched to the pilot this time. I loved the cast they had before, so I'm really interested to see who they choose this time.

The president of the CW obviously really likes the script if he's ordering it to pilot for a second time. I'm crossing my fingers for this one! [Side Note: Still no word on whether Embrace by Jessica Shirvington has been ordered to pilot. But the CW still has time to make decisions!]

What do you think? Have you read The Selection? Would you like to see it on TV? Thoughts below!

  1. I haven't read this one so... um, maybe I'm a little biased when I say I'd like this news to be a possible second pilot about Unearthly instead(?).

    1. Unearthly was in consideration last year! I don't think I've heard anything about it this year though. It would have been awesome if it was :)

  2. I LOVED The Selection, but I'm ok if it doesn't make it to the small screen. I think it's kind of weird though to televise a trilogy. What are they going to do when they run out of material from the book, just add to it? I think I'd rather see a movie.

  3. I'm glad The Selection is getting a second shot but I'm also worried. Rumors say that the first script was pretty faithful to the book and Pedowitz shot it down. I feel like this second version is going to veer away from it. I always thought that they got Maxon and Aspen's casting mixed up. Switch em' and they'll be perfect!
