Books into Movies: 'Divergent' Casts Caleb, Christina, and Tori

Casting is speeding up! According to The Hollywood Reporter, three roles have now been cast, including Tris' brother. And casting updates for Four have been leaking in. A certain actor has been tweeting about his screen tests. Continue reading to find out who may and will be heating up the screen next March!

CASTING NEWS

Tori is Dauntless tattoo owner who becomes a mentor of sorts to Tris. I haven't been the biggest fan of the casting so far. Shailene Woodley is not my first, second, or third choice to play the lead, but I'm happy to say that I fully support the casting for Tori. The badass tatt'ed up Dauntless gal will be played by the badass Maggie Q (pictured in the middle above). She's best known for her role as assassin/agent Nikita on the CW's Nikita

Next we have Christina, who is the Candor-raised girl fighting to become a member of Dauntless. She befriends Tris early on. The role has gone to Zoe Kravitz. She's best known for her role as the butterfly winged girl, Angel, on the last X-Men movie. Bonus Tidbit: She's singer Lenny Kravitz' daughter and very good friends with Jennifer Lawrence (who also starred in X-Men: First Class). I like this casting, though I didn't picture Christina like Zoe. But I think that it's a solid choice.

Caleb, Tris' brother, will be played by Ansel Elgort. He's the first unknown actor to be cast in Divergent. According to IMDB, his first role will be in the remake of Carrie which releases this October. He's also the son of famous fashion photographer, Arthur Elgort. I can't say anything about his acting, but as far as looks go he's pretty much how I picture Caleb.

Casting for Four:
We've received some updates on casting for probably the most important character of the books. Originally, news was that the actor had been narrowed down to four potentials. Of the four, fan favorite Colton Haynes was excluded. And Alexander Ludwig, who was also rumored, was missing from the list as well. A second round of screen tests added Jeremy Irvine and Alex Pettyfer to the list.

Recently Alexander Ludwig, best known for his role as Cato in The Hunger Games, has tweeted that he has also gone through some screen tests. The tweet read "screen testing for divergent today" but it was deleted right after it was posted. Luckily, a screenshot was grabbed that was posted by Fangirlish HERE

Along with Alex Pettyfer, Alexander Ludwig is my least favorite pick for Four. Personally, of the actors who've done screen tests, I'd be happy with Jeremy Irvine or Jack Reynor.

Shailene Woodley has already voiced her own opinion on Four. Here's what kind of guy she thinks should play the lead male:

“You cannot walk in that room in pretty little boots and pretend you’re a man. I’m sorry. You need to walk in there, and you need to not have muscles that look good and not actually work. There have been a few guys that have this power about them. It’s a natural masculine power that some people have and some people don’t.”

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Like the casting choices? Are you a Maggie Q fan? Do you like Alexander Ludwig as Four? Agree with Shailene Woodley about casting for Four? And finally...who's your perfect choice to play him?

  1. I literally just finished reading Divergent today! It was phenomenal! So now that I am an honorary fangirl lol, I care very much about the casting. First off, Shailene Woodley should NOT be playing Tris. She's great at playing the distressed teenager on secret life but... not a badass like Beatrice. I like Maggie Q as Tori, it's very fitting and she's pretty! Christina and Caleb... eh.. I'll... take it? For Four, I don't really like any of the choices... I want a MANLY MAN!!! LOL!

  2. Oh my GOSH. I totally agree with Shailene!! But I don't know about Cato as Four-- for some reason, I picture Four as being...I don't know, less pretty? Does that make any sense? And none of those actress/actors are really what I pictured them as, but if they can act, I'm not sure that I really care, you know? I just really hope that this movie is good. Great post, Krista! (:

  3. I'm all for these castings!

Yeah... Alex Ludwig is pretty much my least favorite of all the guys mentioned for Four. He doesn't fit the bill at all for me. I am really surprised he's been considered. And I really think fans have been pretty against it, not that it seems to matter. I get that not everyone can agree and of course until we see him in the role, we don't know, but he really is just not Four. His looks scream preppy jackass or maybe even the preppy good guy, not the quiet and amazing badass that is Four. I'll be severely disappointed if this is the case. :(

  4. I LOVE Maggie Q! What a great choice for Tori. I also think Zoe is a good choice for Christina. She can play fierce and sweet. Although her brother Caleb... I feel like he doesn't look old enough... Hmm. We shall see! Thanks for sharing!

  5. OH! I really like all of these castings. I really like that Caleb's an unknown actor - but I wish I'd been able to see some sort of example of his acting. AND. FOUR. OH my goodness. I can't wait.

  6. Hell yeah Maggie Q! I totally back this decision. I love her in Nikita and can't wait for her badassery to transfer over to Divergent. Her and Winslet are gonna rock this movie!
