Interview and Giveaway: Sophia Within by Jordana Lizama

Sophia: Within
Sophia: Within
by Jordana Lizama
Release Date: February 17th, 2013

Only time will tell if Sophia, Alec and the world are ready to accept the mission that has been passed down for many generations. This is more than a story of reincarnation. This is a story that never ended following the reign of the Greek gods.

What has been hidden for thousands of years is about to surface in a small New England town. The impact on this rural village is ageless, but only the chosen time travelers know what is happening, the reason it is happening and how to control the outcome.

The Men of Ages have walked the Earth unnoticed since the time of Greek mythology and have kept their ancient war alive by transporting the lead warrior in a most unusual time machine. There is only one way to stop the cataclysmic demise of the human race and Sophia is the answer. But, Sophia is a teenage girl faced with many human and nonhuman desires that create a tortuous path from antiquity to the present day. Love conquers all; or, so it seems.

Interview

What inspired you to write Sophia: Within
I guess it happened when I was  constantly day dreaming in class. I would always have the same image in my head,  which ended up being the prologue of the book. I just wanted to see what it meant, so I started writing it down.

The book involves Greek Gods and Mythology! What myths influenced your story?
I used to love to read mythology, I was perplexed by the way the Gods acted, they were so  human and because of that they managed to do some horrible things, as well as some good ones, so in my head I decided they were not Gods, they had to be some sort of super human race,  taken for gods. This book is about the Greek gods and the nymphs.

Who was your favorite character to write?
Without a doubt, Dennis (Sophia’s brother), was my favorite. He is inspired by all my brothers, so he ended up being a little quirky and funny.

In the summary, The Men of Ages sound like very mysterious guys. Can you give us a hint about who these people might be?
They are what people used to call Greek gods. They were not, but people took them for gods because they were very powerful.

Time travel is also a component in Sophia: Within. Was it difficult to write? And how pivotal of a role does time travel play in the book?
I don´t use time travel, I do however do some leaps to the past. I found they were not confusing for me since, the present and the past are very clearly set.

Who are your favorite YA authors?
I guess anyone who knows me, knows I am a Stephenie Meyer fan, I also love Madeleine L’Engle’s series of a Wrinkle in Time, which ended up being the first series I ever finished, I simply could not put them down.

I know I’m a huge lover of some romance in my YA books! Does Sophia: Within have a romantic element?
Of course! I mean, what’s life without a little romance?

If you could describe the book in three words, what would they be?
Romantic, adventurous and fantastic.

Since Nawanda Files highlights books into movies news, what is your favorite movie that was adapted from a book?
That would have to be Lord of the Rings. I think Peter Jackson is a genius.

She opened her eyes and her heart to literature from the very first time she read Little Women, which was the first book her father bought her. Like Sophia, Jordy had an insatiable appetite for both fiction and nonfiction throughout her school years. Her voracious reading was her foundation for experimental writing. 1. Ohh, it takes place in a small New England town. I live in New England! I wonder if it's a real town or fictional... this is the main reason why I will be checking out Sophia: Within. ALso, because the title has a colon in it, and that's different! haha

Thanks for sharing this excellent interview, Krista!
