The Fault in Our Stars

Gus is cast! Hazel is cast! Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort will star at the young couple who fall in love under serious circumstances. If you don't already know, these two actors are playing brother and sister in the upcoming Divergent film, another YA adapatation. This has spurned some controversy. Like how they can form a connection in the next film when they play siblings in the other one.

What are the actors saying? Well Shailene seems to be laughing it off.
“I keep joking with Ansel about it,” Shailene tells EW with a laugh. “I’m like, ‘In a few months, buddy, you’re going to be my lover.’” But all joking aside, Woodley seems thrilled with her future onscreen romantic pairing. “Ansel is so good. I’m so excited. He blew it out of the water,” she says of the time they read the parts of Gus and Hazel together. “And he’s a real sweetheart. I’m so excited to have him in my life.”
The producers don't seem to be concerned about it either, so Elgort must have blown away the competition:
"We were all swept away by the humor, charm, and aching vulnerability Ansel brought to his portrayal of Gus. His performance completely annihilated our concerns about his playing Caleb in Divergent with Shailene, and we are confident that the fans of Fault will fall in love with him the same way that Hazel does–slowly, and then all at once.”
And lastly, the guy who really matters--author John Green--released a statement on his tumblr after a fan asked to explain the casting choices.
There seems to be some concern that Ansel and Shailene are playing siblings in a different movie. I guess I can understand that, but they’re actors. They can play different roles. They’ll look different and act different and be different. I mean, no one watched Silver Linings Playbook and thought, “When did Katniss move to the suburbs of Philadelphia?”
John Green's approval does make me more hopeful for the movie. Honestly, I'm not too concerned about Elgort and Woodley going from brother-sister to a couple. But I'm still not one-hundred percent sold on Woodley as Hazel. Though, something did give me hope recently!

A photo from Veronica Roth's tumblr showed Elgort and Woodley together, and Shailene looked surprisingly a lot like Hazel. It could work? Maybe...

Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters

Filming began May 27th in London, but there was some casting news before then.

One of the biggest news is that Eddie will not be in the film. He's a male dhampir in the first book, training to be a Guardian. The screenwriter, Daniel Waters, released a statement explaining the reasons for the cut.
Don't hate me, but as you can imagine, it has been a tremendous challenge squeezing Vampire Academy's many wonderful pages into a feature-length script. To give our main characters the soul, complexity, and dimension they deserve, some of the more supporting characters have suffered. For this reason, Team Vampire Academy has decided to postpone Eddie Castile's intro until a hoped-for adaptation of Frostbite.
While Eddie won't be cast, there have been many additions to the film!

CHRISTIAN OZERA: This is probably the most anticipated casting besides the main three actors that have already been hired. And the lucky actor who will play the black-haired Moroi is...Dominic Sherwood. And you may be furrowing your brows in confusion at this name. Well, that's because he only has a few credits to his name. But if you look at the first photo above, then you know the casting is PHENOMENAL! I thought it couldn't get any better. Wrong! It just hit it's peak, my friends.
[First Picture]

VICTOR DASHKOV: Gabriel Byrne will play the Moroi. He generally looks like a vampire and has some great acting credits with In Treatment and Vikings. I approve this casting :)

NATALIE DASHKOV: Casting Sarah Hyland as Lissa's cousin and antagonist in Vampire Academy might be the coolest move. She's well known as the self-involved teenager in Modern Family but I can totally see her pulling off Natalie well.
[Second Picture]

MASON ASHFORD: If you're a fan of Showtime's Shameless then you'll love this casting. Cameron Monaghan will play Rose's best dhampir friend. Again, awesome casting with a great actor.
[Third Picture]

QUEEN TATIANA:  Joely Richardson, best known for The Tudors and Girl with a Dragon Tattoo will play the Moroi queen.

MIA RENALDI: Sami Gayle, a star in Blue Bloods, will play one of the Moroi school enemies of Rose and Lissa.

JESSE ZELKOS: Ashley Charles was cast as the Royal Morai known for being good looking. Cast to perfection...I think so.
[Fourth Picture]

SONYA KARP: Claire Foy was cast as the Moroi teacher.

Rose, Lissa, Dominic, and Kirova have already been cast. You can check out the past news on the Vampire Academy posts

Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters

Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters

A poster was released a while back, but I'd thought I'd include it below since I haven't yet.

The movie studio is making compendium portraits for all the characters. You can see a few from the tweets below.

My personal favorite news: Everything from Vampire Academy. Can that adaptation do no wrong?!

What's your favorite piece of books into movies news this week? What do you think about the Hazel-Gus casting? Are you digging the cast for VA as much as us? Sound off below!

  1. I have to admit that I had my doubts about the casting choices for Divergent and TFiOS, but those two sound like amazing actors. I'm a bit curious as to how Sea of Monsters plays out, considering the stuff they changed in the first movie.

  2. I'm excited to watch them all! I love books turned into movies :D Hopefully-- The movies will turn out well.
    Thanks for the post.

  3. I'm so excited for all of these!! AH. Vampire Academy. I was a bit upset that Eddie wasn't going to be in the movie, but he didn't play too big of a role in the first one, so I think it'll be okay! And DIVERGENT. AHHHHHHHHH. I'm really excited, if you can't tell.

  4. So many awesome updates. Squee! Have you seen the latest trailer for Percy Jackson? I'm surprised the keyboard didn't short-circuit from all the drooling I was doing.
