CASTING NEWS

If I Stay

So it's been a while since we've had any news about the adaptation for Gayle Forman's If I Stay. Last we heard, Chloe Grace Moretz was rumored to be cast as Mia and the film hired R.J. Cutler (Nashville - yay!) to direct.

Gayle Forman took to her tumblr to share some updates on the production. The big news is that Summit Entertainment (the studio that brought us Twilight) has handed over the project to MGM. As far as Mia casting goes, Forman basically revealed that Chloe Grace Moretz is indeed playing Mia. She says:
We are in final negotiations with our Mia. I’m not supposed to say who she is until the deal is finalized, but she’s the same star who’s been rumored to be attached for ages. You can google her. You might notice her hair has been getting darker and how much more Mia-like she looks! She is an amazing actress. I couldn’t be happier.
And since Chloe did happen to have darker hair than her usual blonde (refer to instagram photo below) it's safe to say that this is a safe bet.

Still no word on casting for Adam but according to Forman fans are rooting for Brenton Thwaites to be cast. This guy can't seem to get a break. He auditioned for Four and Augustus, so it'd be nice to see the young actor in a YA adaptation soon.

FILMING NEWS

Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters

Filming has officially been going strong for a couple of weeks. And I can already say that I'm obsessed with this production, cast, everything. It seems like I'm always saying it's the one to beat, but I sincerely think it is.

Most actors don't take to social media so often as the two leads in VA, which makes following this production so awesome. If there are two people who have twitter-chemistry (is that even a thing?) well, these two have it. There tweets are beyond cute. Observe below:

And here are some behind the scene photos. Sara Hyland is getting prepped with some contacts and Rose and Dimitri officially have their own movie chairs :)

Divergent

The most notable filming news has to be the official still for Four. I'm sure everyone has gotten a peak of this already, but I'll put it right here in case you haven't.
Theo James also had an interview with Entertainment Weekly where he discussed his upcoming role as Four. In the interview, he talks about pre-fliming Dauntless training with the rest of the cast. None of the actors knew who Theo was and actually mistook him for the stunt coordinator.
Says James, “I know it sounds ridiculous but it was really quite useful: it helped set a tone for those scenes, being able to live the character a bit.  At one point, Shailene was laughing and I got real serious with her and said”—the actor lowers his voice to a menacing whisper—”Don’t. Laugh.”  He laughs. “Shai was like, ‘um, are you joking right now?’”
So if I wasn't already (for the record, I totally was) I'm now officially on board with Theo James as Four. He's awesome.

Below are behind the scenes photos of filming, courtesy of some devote fans stalking the Chicago streets. Thanks to @Divergentlife and @Divergent_Movie for keeping up-to-date timelines of the events.

And my personal favorite -- here's the entire Prior Family! The tweet is awesome just for the sheer fact that they pointed out the upcoming TFiOS movie. Thanks, @OMGPercy!

POST-PRODUCTION NEWS

Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters

Two more character posters are surfacing for the movie, and I have to say that the first one is fantastic! It's grungy and older and probably is not marketing the fun family-oriented action flick to the tee. But guess what? I don't care! I love it.
Second poster. Not as cool. But it will do.

OPTIONED TO FILM

The Testing

The Testing (The Testing, #1)
Another Dystopian is in the works at Hollywood. But unlike other books optioned to film, this one looks a little less promising. No producer has been hired yet, but Paramount has bought the rights.

Paramount Pictures has acquired The Testing, a novel by Joelle Charbonneau. Deal got made last night, with no producer attached, and it was Peter Kang’s first acquisition since moving to the studio from Fox. The book will be published this week and already has been named a #1 Indie Next 2013 Summer YA Pick and one of the Top 10 Young Adult Books for Summer by USA Today.

The Undertakers

Looks like we may have another zombie adaptation in the future. The Undertakers is a young adult book by Ty Drago whose name reminds way too much of a certain Kahl Drogo...

Rise of the Corpses (The Undertakers, #1)...but I digress. The most surprising bit of information are the goodreads ratings for the book. They're not bad, but there are only just a few of them. 144 ratings at last count. Very interesting. Here's what the producers have to say:
Jeffrey Reddick has signed on with Andrew van den Houten’s Modernciné Films to bring Ty Drago’s zombie young adult series to the big screen. “I’ve been trying to find a project to do with Andrew for years and when I read Ty’s book I knew this was the one. It’s a unique concept with compelling characters and a fun mixture of adventure, cool sci-fi and intense horror,” said Reddick, who created the multi-sequel Final Destination franchise.
Have I ever mentioned how much I love Final Destination. No? Well I do. Count me in!

OMG OF THE WEEK!

The 100

So if you don't know -- The 100 by Kass Morgan is being made into a television show by the CW (our favorite network here at Nawanda Files!) The book doesn't come out until September and the show doesn't come out until 2014. But they've released a preview clip of the show and it looks amazing! Check it our below.
