Our Reaction to the New Vampire Academy Teaser Trailer

If you don't already know (shame on you) that Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy is being made into a movie -- You do now. And as of last night, an official teaser trailer has been released.

Okay. Now that we have our happy dance out of the way (thank you Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone -- neither of which are sadly in this movie) we'll continue to what really matters. The trailer!!!!!

1. Ahhhhhhh! It's here and did you see the Weinstein Company's logo? They're bloody fangs. Yes!

2. And...that amazing song is You (Ha Ha Ha) by Charlie XCX

3. I don't know about you but my school can get a little insane -- non-book readers have no clue ;)

First look at the girls and I must say Sarah Hyland (far right) has the biggest transformation. I didn't even recognize her at first! Definitely doesn't look like the snotty girl on Modern Family anymore.

Lissa and Christian (Becca's favorite character in the book)!!! This blinks by really quickly, but it's a good little tease.

LOVE THIS! Definitely where Daniel Waters' humor comes in. He's the screenwriter and also wrote my favorite eighties movie -- Heathers

My only concern -- can we talk about those teeth? Vampire teeth have never looked so...awkward. Hopefully this is the point of the movie and they're supposed to be overly dramatized.

7. VALENTINE'S DAY!!!! What a great marketing strategy. I would approve if it wasn't so damn far away.

Lissa sounds like a much stronger character than I remember. This I 100% approve of.

Ahhhh! She is scary. But don't you love how badass Rose is?! I totally give props to Zoey Deutch. I don't think anyone could have done a better job. She's Rose to a tee.

WTF?!!! What is going on here? I have no earthly idea. Is that Christian that's being seduced by the headmistress? And what the hell is Rose doing under the table with a laptop? There will probably be several change-ups from the book (which is expected for an adaptation) and this may be one of them. Unless a super fan or someone who recently read VA knows this scene. Any guesses???

What the fuck? O_O This is not how I dream about cute shirtless boys.

Becca's reaction:
"What's up with his hair?"

My reaction:
"DIMITRI!!!!!! Hello there."

Obviously he's much bigger than Zoey Deutch. But he is supposed to be older. They cast a man for the role. Which I again, 100% approve of. I wish we could get a better look at his face, but I'm not complaining too much ;)

Thirdly, I'm way too curious about how their going to progress this relationship and how it will be different from the book. Maybe they'll stay true to it...maybe not.

Lissa and Christian again! Yes!

14. Oh gosh! So many clips flashing before my eyes. All I got was Rose being a badass and Lissa standing looking pretty and oh...I think Dimitri threw a punch in there somewhere. Oh wait...and there's this...

Can we also appreciate the graphic design? Uh, hell yes.

16. In conclusion, I think this movie is going to be epic. Becca is trying to lower my expectations a wee bit by being a little more cynical. She's holding out the possibilty that it might be a complete flop. Maybe.

But I think it'll be awesome.

Quotes from the Trailer

"I don’t know about you, but my school can get a little insane. Most of us stay up all night, and all of us think that we’ll live forever. If we survive graduation, that is." -- Rose
“Blood is family, blood is pain, and blood is death” -- Lissa

It's time for your opinions to be heard! Take to the comments to express your reaction to the trailer. Or let us know if you're excited for the film (like me) or have some reservations about it (like Becca). Thanks for stopping by!

  1. I loved the trailer although I am not a fan of the overly large fangs and I have no idea what that scene is. I also don't get the whole Blood Is speech thing. But yay for Lissa seeming like a stronger character and Zoey is the perfect Rose. And Dimitris hair is terrible but his face makes up for it lol.

    1. Krista was trying to reassure me about his hair, but I can't be until we're given a close up. Need to see his pretty face :)

  2. I struggled with the books... A lot... I barely remember what they're about but I know that they were hard for me to get through. I ended up sticking them in my attic to make room for other books on my shelves.

    I don't know if I'll see this. :/

    1. Oh no! Really? I was engrossed from the first page. As was Krista. But I suppose Richelle Mead's writing isn't for everyone. Maybe you will enjoy the movie though.

  3. I acutally don't really like the trailer.. It's.. It isn't what I expected. I didn't really get the humour either. It felt more like a parody to me. I'm still excited, but not that excited anymore. I love the Christian-Lissa scene though--Christian is my favorite character as well:) That comp/desk scene is not in the books. And umm.. I think.. Zoey is great and I loved this choice from the beginning. I agree with the teeth though. I think TVD has it best. True Blood is too.. freaky for my taste when it comes to fangs.

    1. Same here. While Krista was screaming and fangirling over the trailer, I was kind of taken aback because it's not how I envisioned the film -- or what I thought they were doing with it. It's not bad, but it's different. And same, not as excited. I was kind of turned off by the desk scene. Looked like something from Nancy Drew.

  4. So excited! Although the voice over made the trailer kind of cheesy. And I was also wondering who the heck was making out on the desk with Rose under it.

    1. Yes! That desk scene! We had to slow down, pause, and screen-grab to figure it out. Sooo strange. Hopefully the plot is good.

    2. Hey, when I first saw the trailer I had no idea about that desk scene and I had to stop it and study it to figure out what was actually happening. The author of the books, Richelle mead, stated that the scene was an adaptation of an important plot so I briefly scanned back through my VA novel and the only thing I can come up with is that it's an adaptation of Rose checking her emails and receiving an abrupt email from her mum. Maybe it's been changed so that she has to sneak to check her emails because of her conditions of returning to the academy and she has to hide when Kirova enters with a ??possible feeder?? That's the only thing I could find involving a laptop anyway and I would think Rose's relationship with her mum is an important part of the plot so that's what I'm going with for now :)

  5. I am so FREAKING EXCITED about this movie! I feel like I have had to wait so long for this! There are things that I am not the biggest fan of in the trailer but a lot of it seems to stay semi accurate to the movie! I feel like Zoey is perfect!

  6. I love the series! Plus-- I'm happy with the actors! The trailer is not as exciting as the novel. If the audience didn't read the book then I bet they don't have a clue what's happening.

  7. I'm SO excited for this movie. It seems like they may have changed a few things up, but I'm sure they know what they're doing, so I'm looking forward to that. I kind of like how Lissa seems like a stronger character, but a lot of her development in the later books was her growing into that strong person. Does that make sense?

And then Rose/Dimitri! Her casting is perfect, and then his is good! I think it's just his hair that puts me off.

Dimitri's hair is whack. Is that an appropriate way to describe it?

I'm excited to see how their relationship progresses!

SO excited. And the Valentines Day marketing plan is genius.

  8. My cousin's reaction to Naked Dimitri: "What, he looks fat!"
Me: "Of course he looks fat, all you can see is his ASS."
    We both approve.
The only too weird thing (aside Lisa's voice, WTF?!) is the fangs. Isn't in Moroi society a sort of... not acceptable thing to show the fangs? I don't remember, maybe I'm hallucinating. I have to re-read the book.
