No Sophomore Slump Here!!

Find MeThe Evolution of Mara Dyer BY Michelle Hodkin
RELEASEd October 23rd 2012 BY Simon and Schuster

The main problem with the first book was the infestation of romance that seemed to overtake the coolest part of the book: Mara's hallucinations. But Hodkin fixed that really well in Evolution, and it by far surpassed the previous book. Now I just wish we didn't have to wait another year for the third one to be released *sigh*

Find MeSpark BY Brigid Kemmerer
RELEASEd August 28th 2012 BY K-Teen

Storm was just an okay read for me. But Spark was a favorite read. I remember putting it down and being in awe. I actually bought a Kindle version too just so I could highlight all of my favorite lines!

Find Me

Resist BY Sarah Crossan
RELEASEs October 8TH 2013 BY GreenWillow

If you've recently read my review, you know how obsessed I am with this book. It was just flawless like Breathe but it ties up all the loose ends and concludes the series. More than that, it managed to make me like a character that I wasn't too fond of in the first book.

Find Me

Hallowed BY Cynthia Hand

RELEASED January 17th 2012 BY HarperTeen

This one made me cry ugly tears. And the twists -- I didn't see them coming. This is my favorite one in the whole series, and if you've read Unearthly, I highly suggest continuing and reading this one. You won't regret it!

Find MeFrost Bite BY Richelle Mead
RELEASED April 10TH 2008 BY Razorbill

This is my favorite VA novel out of the 3 that I've read. I love Adrian. Love, love, love, and he comes in hot. Plus Christian and Lissa's relationship fire up in this one too. I actually Wiki'd the rest of the series because the third book made me so mad. So I do not plan on finishing bc I know what happens, but I have Bloodlines on my shelf to start.

Find MeKiss of Frost BY Jennifer Estep
RELEASED November 29thTH 2011 BY K-Teen

This one reminds me of Frost Bite. We head to a ski cabin in the sequel, and I just love the coziness and the drama -- it's so Everwood to me (with paranormal abilities, of course). So instantly loved this one more than the first book.

Find MeMidnight Alley by Rachel Caine
RELEASED October 7TH 2007 BY Signet

I love the Morganville series. They get better and better with each book because the world continues to expand. This is the third one, and I liked it because my favorite OTP finally starts making some big moves. The plot is also pretty crazy!

Find Me

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets BY J.K. Rowling
RELEASEd June 2nd 1999 BY Arthur A. Levine Books

Introduce Ginny Weasley to the group and I'm sold (since I have an older brother, I was a sucker for the young sister tags along plots). I love this plot so much more than the formulaic first book. This one really shows that J.K. Rowling can masterfully construct a mystery.

Find MeRebel Angels BY Libba Bray
RELEASEd December 26TH 2006 BY Ember

I fell in love with Libba Bray's series when YA was just getting popular -- right before Twilight expanded the category into what it is today (even you don't like that book, you have to appreciative of what it's done for us as readers!) And I loved Rebel Angels so much that I made mixed tapes labeled Rebel Angels (yes, I was a nerd).

Find MeX-Men: messiah Complex BY Mike Carey
RELEASEd May 14TH 2008 BY Marvel

I couldn't think of a final book, but I did remember a comic! House of M comes before Messiah Complex and it's just awful. Not worth reading, but Messiah Complex is the aftermath of House of M, and it's just brilliant. And it goes down as my favorite X-Men comic of all time. Second Coming comes right after it, and that one is really fantastic as well.

  1. Gah, I think Mara Dyer #2 was even better than the first. But the ending?! GAH. Sadly, I haven't read any of the others... but I am dying to begin UNEARTHLY!

    1. Unearthly is my fav angel series. It's so good!

  2. I had the exact same issue with MARA DYER #1 - the romance was too overpowering (and oftentimes, eye-roll inducing) for me to enjoy the book fully, but I'm glad that the sequel improved on that! The series has a really cool premise, so I hope to continue it soon. And other than that HP book over there - which I totally approve of ;) - I haven't read the rest. But there ARE some that I desperately want to start reading... like The Elemental Series, and UNEARTHLY. So many books I need to catch up on. >.<

    1. And you'd think that more Noah Shaw would be the best, but it totally did ruin the first book. The Elemental series is a must read!

    1. So glad you read Morganville! I feel like there's not that many people that have (and if they do, they don't talk about it to me!) :D

  7. I love Adrian and I love me some Christian, but I didn't love Frost Bite that much :( I loved Shadow Kiss the best and then the final three a bunch, too. The first two? Not as big of a fan of those lol. I do like them, but don't love 'em as much as the rest of the books in VA series. HELL TO THE FREAKING YES, GIRL! I loved Evolution!!! I found Unbecoming OK, but Evolution? WOW! I can't wait to read Hallowed. I hope it comes soon for me:) I enjoyed Unearthly and I hear that Hallowed IS good just as you said. Love your picks, Becca:)

    1. Really? Is Shadow Kiss the third one? If so, I hated that one! If not, then I haven't read it.

EVOLUTION is so so good! You must read Hallowed!

    1. Yeah, Resist blew me away and I definitely liked a character more in it. I liked Dark Frost too! I think all the Frost books were better after the last one :D

    1. Oh you must read Evolution! It's so worth it, even if you just thought Unbecoming was okay.

  10. Adrian! You have to finish VA with the one & only object of reading Bloodlines. The Adrian levels there are beautiful.
    I love him.

&, uh, in my list Scarlet by Marissa Meyer & a tie between The iron Daughter/Dark Triumph.

    1. I don't know if I can finish VA though. I already read all the spoilers! Hopefully I can still love Bloodlines without seeing the extra Adrian moments :)

    1. When I first read Prisoner of Azkaban, I think I was too young to understand the time machine bit. I had to watch the movie to fully get it lol. But Order of the Phoenix is my fav! It's the only one I've read like three or four times.

  15. Ooh, yes, The Evolution of Mara Dyer was much better than the first one. I'll looking forward to the next one!

And you already know I love Spark. ;)

  16. HUGE yes to The Evolution of Mara Dyer! I absolutely hated the first one, which I think you share a similar opinion on.
And Frostbite is even better than Vampire Academy? Now that I have got to read. ;D

    1. Yes! Frostbite introduces Adrian, who is such a dynamic character. I don't really like him with Rose, but I just love him in general :D

  17. Yes to Kiss of Frost and HP! I haven't read... any of the other eight O__O But you just reminded me that I must get started on Brigit Kemmerer's series, VA, and eep I just got a copy of Hallowed from a friend so I can get that started right away. Ugly tears, here I come xD

  18. I'm so mad the last Mara Dyer book was pushed back! June 2014?! Ugh :(
And you should finish VA, because it turns out right in the end I think, even if it doesn't look like it for a while. And I love the Bloodlines series even more, I think.
Is Rebel Angels part of the Gemma Doyle series? Because I have the first one near the top of my TBR pile and I'm really looking forward to it :)
Great picks! Thanks for stopping by.

  19. I had Azkaban on my list, and the second Morganville book. But great minds think alike! :) I'm seeing Mara Dyer on a lot of lists, and Spark. I did like both of them, Spark for sure better than Storm (I'm still bummed that Storm wasn't about Michael after the way the "Elemental" novella left off!). Great list! :)
