Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.
Hurry and Green-light these babies!
THE 5 BEST TV SHOWS (that should be made)
The Sweet Trilogy: When I worked for The CW, I was trying to push for this to become a show on the network (not that my lowly position as an assistant had much weight) but still, I tried! It has the perfect cast of characters and a premise (the son of lust!) that'll attract screaming girls everywhere. Love!!
Dark Star series: The mythology is so original that this deserves some time up on the screen, and I adore each character enough that they could definitely hold their own as a dynamic cast.
The Iron Fey saga: So many books to use for material! Seriously, the world is rich. The characters are oozing with personality. I could see this on maybe The CW (who's pulling for more high-concept shows) or possibly a cable network willing to spend some serious cash for the set design to the Nevernever. Syfy could be up for the challenge!
The Elemental series: Gah! The Merrick brothers on screen *fans self* When I first started reading this series, I pictured it as a show a la One Tree Hill. Brother drama? Check!
Unearthly series: I would love to see this on The CW (who developed the script one year) or ABC Family. It's been so long for a tv show to be set in the mountains, and I doubt there's been one in the Teton area. Plus, angels? Yes, please! (if done well, that is.)
THE 5 BEST MOVIES (that should be made)
Insignia: Hello, this book is a better version of Ender's Game in my opinion. So overlooked recently that it shocks me to my core. This is a book that can rival J.K. Rowling. No lie. And it deserves to be a film as much as Harry Potter. Rich, amazing, characters you love -- 100% film worthy!
Uglies: How is this not a movie yet?! It boggles my mind. Maybe morphing teens into super-beautiful people just cannot translate on screen, but I hope they find a way to make it work. This is a book that redefined science fiction in Young Adult. Hell, it opened the genre right there alongside Twilight with paranormal YA and A Great and Terrible Beauty with historical YA. (the latter would be a great tv show, actually!)
The Devouring: Perfect horror film. It has the makings for a good adaptation just like any Stephen King novel. If you love horror books, pick this one up because it's probably the most heart-pumping and twisty one I've read yet.
Life after Theft: So this would be a perfect Disney original movie or ABC Family original film. With the ghost-plot, it's not necessarily straight to theaters, Mean Girls-style, but the whacky premise has merit to show on tv. As it should!
Breathe: It's high-concept enough to land on the big screen, and since Crossan wrote this in three POVs, it's perfect for adaptation. Aren't you sick of the movie adapts where we follow one person around? The multi-perspectives will make this one a fast-paced film for sure. Plus, after Resist, this has been solidified as my favorite dystopian series EVER!
We feature books-into-movies news at Nawanda Files and we're certified TV junkies. I even got paid to watch television (yes, this is true. What tv network, you ask? Read Sweet Evil's blurb atop to find out) and I wrote about pop culture (the best job ever!), which lasted far longer than expected and somedays, I wish I was still there. So this Top Ten was super fun for us (or rather me since I wrote it).
