HOW I LIVE NOW

BOOK TRAILER

This book adaptation of Meg Rosoff's How I Live Now completely slipped by me! And when I stumbled upon the trailer, I started remembering how powerful this book really is. Combine an amazing lead (Saorise Ronan) and I'm doubly thrilled for this movie. Watch the trailer below.

THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY

CASTING/FILMING NEWS

More casting updates for Mockingjay!

Castor and Pollux have been cast. If you don't know who they are here's a mini synopsis from the Hunger Games wiki
Castor was from the Capitol but worked as a cameraman who filmed Katniss in District 13's propos for the rebels. He worked alongside his brother, Pollux, and is directed by Cressida and her assistant Messalla. Together, the four of them form the TV crew.
Elden Henson will play Pollux and Wes Chatham will play Castor (pictured above).

My favorite casting news has to be that Lily Rabe has been cast in the movie! She's most notably from American Horror Story.
Rabe will portray Commander Lyme, a former victor of the Hunger Games from District 2 and a leader of the Rebellion in District 13.
Entertainment Weekly also has a great slideshow of all the characters/actors that will be in Mockingjay. If you're interested in the cast, check it out here

Filming for Mockingjay has already begun in Atlanta, and there have been lots of fan photos cropping up. Julianne Moore, who plays President Coin, was spotted with gray hair first reported by The Daily Mail.

Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth were also photographed on the set. JLaw is sporting her new short hair, so I think she'll either get a wig (most likely) or extensions for the film.

THE MAZE RUNNER

POST-PRODUCTION NEWS

The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1)
Big news about The Maze Runner. The film's release date as been pushed back from Feb. 14th to Sept. 19th. That's a huge delay! Director Wes Ball tweeted about the news:
Dylan O'Brien, who stars in the film, responded at New York Comic Con.
"It means the studio is backing it, and you know, they want to give Wes, the director, and the visual effects team all the time that they need to make the movie the best version it can be,” O’Brien said in comments recorded by Hypable at NYCC on Sunday. “I think it’s so smart what they did.”
Personally, I like that the studio is taking the time to enhance the visual effects. Maybe the realize after the The Mortal Instruments flop that you can't just put out a YA adaptation and have everyone falling in love with it.

DIVERGENT

POST-PRODUCTION NEWS

Of course there has been plenty of Divergent news, but since this is such a high-profile adaptation (much like THG) I'm only going to choose my favorite news to share.

Two character posters were released:

Even though I really don't like Four's tattoos, I do love these posters. There's something so dark and sexy about them.

VAMPIRE ACADEMY

POST-PRODUCTION NEWS

Another new poster! This one is definitely more satirical, and you can see what the producers are trying to go for. I think it's smart they're leaning towards humor, considering serious vampire flicks usually can't be taken seriously. Plus, Richelle Meade's humor is one of the best parts of the book.

I have high hope for this one because the writer of Heathers is working on it. It already has that kind of feel it it.

THE BOOK THIEF

POST-PRODUCTION NEWS

Another poster to revel in is the one for The Book Thief!

I'm definitely getting excited for this one!

IF I STAY

CASTING NEWS

Liana Liberato has been cast as Mia's best friend, Kim. Deadline:
Liana Liberato will play Chloe Moretz’s best friend, a sarcastic book nerd, in If I Stay. R.J. Cutler’s film is based on Gayle Forman’s YA novel about a comatose teenager who has an out-of-body experience in the hospital and must choose between living a difficult life or giving up. Liberato, whose credits include Trust and Stuck In Love, is repped by Management 360 and CAA.
I love that this movie is really heading forward. And I think after TFiOS and If I Stay hitting the screens, we'll see more contemporary adaptations to follow.

HARRY POTTER SPIN-OFF

OPTIONED TO FILM

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
The Harry Potter companion book "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" is being adapted into a movie by J.K. Rowling herself. This news makes me super giddy. Not only because there will be more films about everyone's favorite Wizarding World, but it opens the doors to other adaptations in the HP realm.

J.K. Rowling had more to say about the movie:
"Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for 17 years, 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the 'Harry Potter' series, but an extension of the wizarding world," Rowling said in a statement. "The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the 'Harry Potter' books or seen the films, but Newt's story will start in New York, 70 years before Harry's gets underway.'"

WILD CARDS

A WEBSERIES

I read Wild Cards and thought it was a decent contemp, but I was dumbfounded (and super excited) to find out the book was made into a web series. I commend Simon Elkeles for taking this project under her wings. While some of the acting is cringe inducing, and the plot doesn't completely mirror the plot in the book, I would watch for the originality and Jet. Yes, the actor who plays Jet is phenomenal and I'm about to stalk him on IMDB.

You can watch the first episode below:

WITCHES OF EAST END

CURRENTLY ON TV

Witches of East End has already premiered on Lifetime, so if you're a fan of Melissa de la Cruz's series then you should tune in Sunday's at 10. Here's the trailer:

BETA

OPTIONED FOR TV
Beta (Annex, #1)
Rachel Cohn's Beta has been optioned to ABC with Chris Weitz to produce. He directed New Moon so you can be sure this will be a very soap-opera induced adaptation (it's ABC after all).
The project is set in the near future when clones have become the enslaved work force for the wealthy. But when a new Beta model is introduced and discovers the dark truth about her own origins, she also begins

FIFTY SHADES OF GREY

WHAT THE FUCKERY A.K.A CASTING NEWS FOR THIS MOVIE

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1)If you've been on the internet, you probably know the casting shenanigans going on with Fifty Shades of Grey. We all thought that Christian Grey had been cast, but about a week ago Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) pulled out of the movie. His reps sighted scheduling conflicts, but Hypable learned that Hunnam had cold feet for other reasons:
One problem with the limited amount of time was that the current version of the script hasn’t developed Christian Grey, and Hunnam didn’t feel he had what he needed to understand the character, Hypable has learned from a source close to the project. In addition, the actor was concerned how his body looks compared to what is described in the book series by E.L. James. To meet the character description required of him, Hunnam thought he would have to go to the gym every day between Sons and Fifty Shades filming.
So now producers are racing to find a replacement since they don't want to delay the August 1st, 2014 release. Who are the potentials?

Alexander Skarsgard (True Blood), Theo James (Divergent), Christian Cooke (Romeo & Juliet), James Dornen (Once Upon a Time), and Scott Eastwood (Clint Eastwood's son) are all rumored to being considered.

What do we think about this adaptation? First of all, it should have been made eons ago when the buzz was still...well buzzing. Now it feels like a ho-hum production. I also think that there must be something terribly wrong with script for Hunnam to drop out. But really, who could make a good script from pure smut?

Will I go see this movie? Hell yes, because I'm just too damn curious how they're planning on adapting it. So here are our thoughts on the contenders for Christian Grey.

We approve of Alexander Skarsgard and Scott Eastwood.
We wouldn't mind Christian Cooke or James Dornen.
We would die if Theo James became Christian Grey. He's Four from Divergent you guys! That's not okay.

OMG OF THE WEEK!

Did you know that Cinderella is being made into a movie...not an animated movie! What?! We didn't either. It's releasing in March and the first photo has been released.

You guys! This really already looks just so magical. I'll be here, staring in awe. Go on without me.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

My personal favorite news: A Harry Potter companion book is being made into a movie by J.K. Rowling herself. We're going back to the Wizarding World!

What movie are you dying to see? What's your favorite piece of books into movies news this week?  Sound off below!

  1. I love Saoirse ronan and will see anything she's in, even though I wasn't a huge fan of the book. The Divergent trailer looks like fun though, doesn't it? Tris' tattoos are very pretty in that poster.

Obviously eager to see Catching Fire and VA (although I have no hopes it will be good) and Book Thief, and Saving Mr. Banks, too. :)

    1. Saoirse is really awesome! I love her too, even in The Host. Tris' tattoos are ten times prettier than Four's, which I think it the point lol.

My expectations for VA are pretty low too, but I'll see it anyway :D Book Thief! That trailer gave me chills.

  2. The Harry Potter spin off is so exciting <3 I love the movie poster for The book thief (starting to warm up for it) and How I live now looks great. I'll take a look at the book.

And yeaaaaaay, Catching fire, can't wait :D!

    1. I am going to die when the HP spin-off happens. How exciting is it going to be back in the wizarding world? It'll be a bummer if it's not that good, but I don't see how that could be. I'd watch anything that involves Rowling's world :D

  3. I really REALLY need to read Mockingjay. I put it off so that I could hold on to the series longer and I've put it off FAR too long. Every time I see new casting for the movie it drives me nuts because that's all I can think about. :P

DUDE. Cinderella. I didn't even KNOW. And even though I'm not really into Cinderella, it is really intriguing me.

    1. Krista always does that -- puts off the last book in a series and just waits for the movie. You should definitely read it before the film comes out though! Don't be like Krista lol :D

I didn't even know about it either! Cinderella really isn't my fav too, but I can't wait to see a trailer for the film.

    2. I had no idea about Cinderella OR the Book Thief, but I'll be interested to watch both trailers. :-) yey!

  4. SOOOOOOO many good news. Don't really care for Fifty, but I've read the books and Hunnam really would have fit the role I think, I don't see how Theo James could be as CG. Hahahaha. That's just.. so wrong, it's hilarious. I can't wait for the rest of these things though:) *off to watch Wild Cards cringeworthy video*

    1. I do think Hunnam fit the role well too. And plus, he did Queer as Folk when he was a teenager, and that's basically a porn. So I thought he would handle everything the role required. Theo James is a definite NO!

Curious to see what you thought of the Wild Cards video!

    1. Me too! It always sucks when the hype was bigger and better than the movie.

  6. Huh, how have I never heard of this one?? I am definitely going to take a look. I love when books get turned into movies, even if they change things up a bit. Who can blame them for changing things anyway?

    1. Yeah, I don't mind changes that much when it happens. It's understandable that you can't put everything in a movie. But in the case for HP, I wouldn't care if that movie took one whole week to watch!

  7. So many news! I'm trying to take this all in. Firstly I love the posters for Divergent and The Book Thief. I cannot believe that I'm still skeptical about VA. You better be good. Also now I must read Wild Cards just to see that series.
Totally agree with you about Theo becoming shitty Gray! NO! Don't you dare!

    Great post :)

    1. I'm skeptical about VA too. Krista is more optimistic than me. But I'm hoping it turns out to be a winner like Warm Bodies.

  8. Ahhh, all this talk about Mockingjay is making me so excited -- and Catching Fire isn't even out yet! I can't remember who Castor and Polloux are, even with the descriptions, so I'm going to have to re-read the trilogy soon. I love that Julianne Moore was cast for President Coin, though. Based on that picture, she's got the coldness and heartlessness of Coin done just right.

And those Divergent posters. NEED. I think the actor choice for Four was poor (he's almost thirty!), but I agree, he looks pretty sexy in that poster. So does Tris! Ahhh, I'm so excited like you wouldn't believe. *does weird jiggly dance*

I'm also really curious to see how Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will turn out. I hope they don't butcher it -- if it's an extension of the wizarding world of HP, then let it be that and don't turn it into something it's not. Filmmakers seem to have the bad habit of doing that to book to movie adaptions.

Ugh about Fifty Shades! First it was Alex Pettyfer, then it was Charlie Hunnam, and now it's... no one. I hope Theo James doesn't get cast for the same reason as you. It would be so gross to have him as Four in Divergent, and then Christian in Fifty Shades. Seriously. Ew.

    1. I couldn't remember Castor and Polloux from the book either, but I sadly don't have time to reread :(

I really like the Divergent posters too! Yeah, I'm not feeling the actor for Four either.

I read that HP encyclopedia all the time when I was younger, so I'm excited to see the story they're going to build, but I'm keeping my expectations low just in case they butcher it.

Thankfully Christian Grey turned out to be the guy who was the Calvin Klein model. Yum!

  9. I'm not liking the satirical slant to the VA movie so far. :-( RE Divergent yes it would be so wrong for the actor who plays Four to star in 50 Shades!! Also, I'm not sure how many people would be up for a 50 Shades cinema trip - that would feel mega weird to me, lol.

    1. I think a lot of people will go to the theaters. If they braved Twilight / Magic Mike, I don't see why women would feel guilty going to go see Fifty Shades.

I'm actually excited to see how they do the humor in VA. I think it may work. Taking itself too seriously could lead it to bad places like TMI.

  10. HOW COULD I HAVE NOT TOLD YOU ABOUT THE CINDERELLA REMAKE?! I'VE BEEN SO EXCITED FOR THAT FOR SO LONG!

    The Book Thief movie <3

I'm slightly worried about the DIVERGENT movie and I'm not a fan of Four's tattoo either, but I think his poster is damn sexy. ;)

Also, I think 50 Shades should just give up. This mother is surrounded by such bad luck that someone may die in a freak accident on set or something.

    1. 50 Shades really is doomed from the start. E.L. James held onto her rights to the film for too long. The buzz has all but disappeared and turned into more scorn than anything.

  11. OMG! I will DIE if they cast Theo James as Christian Grey!!

I'm excited to see Divergent, VA, TFiOS, If I Stay and Catching Fire! I have Witches of East End recorded on my DVR but I haven't gotten the chance to watch any of it yet.

  12. Fantastic post Becca, I was disappointed with the VA movie trailer as it looks like mean girls and kind of B grade. I'm super excited about Divergent too. Cinderella would be awesome! Thanks for your awesome post, I didn't know some of these were becoming movies.

    1. I can't take all the credit for the post. Krista is the one who compiles everything while I fangirl about the news :D My expectations are lower for VA. I'm not expecting huge things, but I'm hoping it'll be better than TMI and Beautiful Creatures.
