Wish these covers were better!
SPARK BY BRIGID KEMERER
RELEASED AUGUST 2012 BY KENSINGTON
I adore the Elemental series, but the covers confuse me. None of the four guys look like the Merrick brothers, and the guy in blue (who I assume is Chris) looks adopted compared to the others. And there are supposed to be identical twins. No, none of those guys are identical. This missed the mark in terms of capturing the essence of the book and the characters.
RELEASED JUNE 25TH 2013 BY RANDOM HOUSE
The premise for this book sounded so cool, but the cover is just meh. In a pool of YA fantasy, I think this one has quickly been lost in the shuffle. And for me, the cover is the main reason.
THE SUMMER I BECAME A NERD BY LEAH RAE MILLER
RELEASED MAY 7TH BY ENTANGLED TEEN
I love this book times infinity. Probably my FAVORITE contemporary of all-time. It's just so damn cute, and the main character has the best voice ever. But the font of this cover looks out of focus and blurry from afar. And the image is just not that nerdy Such a wasted opportunity!
PERSONAL DEMONS BY LISA DESROCHERS
I actually like the models, but the book is good enough to have something better than a cover that could be the poster to a bad 90s paranormal flick. I mean, we're talking heaven and hell here. Hush, Hush can't be the only great angel cover, can it? *ponders others* maybe so, maybe so.
HALFLINGS BY HEATHER BURCH
RELEASED FEBRUARY 1ST 2012 BY ZONDERVAN
I like what they were going for -- the angel wings in the back of the head. But the cover model looks way too photoshopped into the image for my taste. I tried to give this book a shot, but I also couldn't get that into it.
RELEASED JANUARY 4TH 2011 BY HARPER TEEN
Ah, I love these series. I hate these covers so much. While the font is pretty, the actual picture says nothing about the book. And Clara has red hair, which should be shown, not muted in purple (and subsequently blue and pink). AUSTRALIA, I commend you for making your covers GORGEOUS.
VAMPIRE ACADEMY BY RICHELLE MEAD
RELEASED AUGUST 16TH 2007 BY RAZORBILL
I cannot wait for the movie-tie in covers. I will be snatching it up like crazy because this one ... it's just not good. I could blame the year of the release. 2007 was when YA was just becoming popular, and this looks so outdated. But I don't think the spin-off covers (Bloodlines) are much better.
HEARTBEAT BY ELIZABETH SCOTT
RELEASES JANUARY 28TH 2014 BY HARLEQUIN TEEN
Harlequin usually has pretty great covers. And this isn't that bad, but after waiting for MONTHS with a blue-covered paperback ARC, I thought the reveal was going to be epic. And then this comes out and I was all just like ... *shrug* Nothing special. Bummer.
CONTROL BY LYDIA KANG
"There are no accidents" is a great tagline. But the cover doesn't tell me that much about the book other than it's science fiction. I'll probably still read it, regardless (or Krista will) -- but this could have been a cool one.
SANCTUM BY SARAH FINE
I was recommended this by Lili at Lili's Reflections and her recommendations have yet to fail me! But I hesitate to start it only because the cover. It's just... not my thing. I don't know why but it makes me not want to read it. Something to do with the model and the fire and the weird smoky city all together. I need to get over it soon because I hear this one is fantastic!
