Blog Sign-Ups for Cover Reveal and Giveaway: Addicted to You

So about a week ago, Krista and I revealed our Big News. We're publishing a Contemporary NA this summer! And we need all of you wonderful people to help us spread the word. Sign-Ups are below in the Google doc, and if you'd like to reveal the cover someday after May 3rd, that works too. We'll send the cover to you before the date so you have time to get the post ready.

We know people may be hesitant to do cover reveals because a) the cover could be butt ugly and they don't want it to be an eye sore on their blog, b) they're afraid the cover may be indecent in some way. Well, though we are biased, we can tell you this much about it:

Interview and Giveaway: Sophia Within by Jordana Lizama

Sophia: Within
Sophia: Within
by Jordana Lizama
Release Date: February 17th, 2013

Only time will tell if Sophia, Alec and the world are ready to accept the mission that has been passed down for many generations. This is more than a story of reincarnation. This is a story that never ended following the reign of the Greek gods.

What has been hidden for thousands of years is about to surface in a small New England town. The impact on this rural village is ageless, but only the chosen time travelers know what is happening, the reason it is happening and how to control the outcome.

The Men of Ages have walked the Earth unnoticed since the time of Greek mythology and have kept their ancient war alive by transporting the lead warrior in a most unusual time machine. There is only one way to stop the cataclysmic demise of the human race and Sophia is the answer. But, Sophia is a teenage girl faced with many human and nonhuman desires that create a tortuous path from antiquity to the present day. Love conquers all; or, so it seems.

What inspired you to write Sophia: Within
I guess it happened when I was  constantly day dreaming in class. I would always have the same image in my head,  which ended up being the prologue of the book. I just wanted to see what it meant, so I started writing it down.

The book involves Greek Gods and Mythology! What myths influenced your story?
I used to love to read mythology, I was perplexed by the way the Gods acted, they were so  human and because of that they managed to do some horrible things, as well as some good ones, so in my head I decided they were not Gods, they had to be some sort of super human race,  taken for gods. This book is about the Greek gods and the nymphs.

Big News and Big Changes!

First off, I feel as if I need to add a disclaimer to this incredibly vague title. No we are not shutting down Nawanda Files and disappearing off cyberspace. And...breathe. Okay, now for the crux of this post.

Some of you may know that Becca and I have been writing books for a pretty long time (actually way before we ever started blogging). This July we will be publishing our New Adult contemporary novel! It's both exciting and terrifying. As book reviewers, we're completely aware of the goods and bads that come with putting a piece of work out to the public. Becca has way more experience with this, having worked as a writer at The CW Atlanta. I'm a bit greener. But criticism is a natural part of being an author and I'm more than ready for it.

Discussion: The Pros and Cons to ebooks

Today we'll be discussing ebooks. Those lovely little things you can read anywhere on the go. On your iPad, on your phone, on your kindle. The one true accessible book. My thoughts on ebooks will differ from the vast majority, but since this a discussion--take to the comments to let your opinions be heard. Now let's dive in..

Publisher: Dial Books for Young Readers
Release Date: December 26th, 2013

After the violent death of her father, 17 year-old Zelia loses her younger sister, Dylia, during an abduction at a foster care agency. Zelia’s only allies are the freak-show inhabitants of her new, underground foster home. Along with the unexpected love of a very strange boy, she will need her flaws and their illicit traits to save the only family she has left.

Why I'm Waiting...

It's no secret that I'm a science major in college, or that I have a vast love for all things sci-fi related. So when you throw around words like "DNA" and "enhanced genes" I'm already salivating. Plus, this synopsis reminds me of one of my favorite movies starring Ethan Hawke: Gattaca!

Needless to say, I'm craving me some Control. With a release date the day after Christmas, I'm thinking that this one would look mighty fine in my stocking ;)

Have you heard of this? What are you waiting on? Don't forget to leave you links in the comments!

Books into Movies: 'Hunger Games: Catching Fire' Releases New Teaser Trailer!

Hunger Games: Catching Fire

All right fellow book lovers, feast your eyes on the best thing that came out of the MTV Movie Awards last night.

I have some comments on this trailer. First off, I'd like to preface that it's been quite awhile since I read Catching Fire, so my brain may be a little bit rusty on the details. Anyway, here's what I thought during the trailer:

Book Mash [4]

A new feature on Nawanda Files that is math...for books, where we mash up new and old releases with books, tv and movies. What equals our favorite reads? Find out in the simple equation below.

Combine a young military with space involvement, a world where "hackers" reign supreme (almost everything happens online), and a fourteen-year-old male lead who joins a "division" much like Harry Potter houses (they even have their own symbols!). What do you get?

Books into Movies: Updates on The Mortal Instruments, Divergent, Catching Fire, and Many More!

There has been so much Books into Movies news lately, that I have tried to compile everything in one neat post. From trailers to casting to filming, it's all here! Spotlight and Giveaway: Insomnia by J.R. Johansson

by J.R. Johansson
Series: The Night Walkers #1
Publisher: Flux
Release Date: June 8th, 2013
Source: Publisher
It’s been four years since I slept, and I suspect it is killing me.

Instead of sleeping, Parker Chipp enters the dream of the last person he’s had eye contact with. He spends his nights crushed by other people’s fear and pain, by their disturbing secrets—and Parker can never have dreams of his own. The severe exhaustion is crippling him. If nothing changes, Parker could soon be facing psychosis and even death.

Then he meets Mia. Her dreams, calm and beautifully uncomplicated, allow him blissful rest that is utterly addictive. Parker starts going to bizarre lengths to catch Mia’s eye every day. Everyone at school thinks he’s gone over the edge, even his best friend. And when Mia is threatened by a true stalker, everyone thinks it’s Parker.

Suffering blackouts, Parker begins to wonder if he is turning into someone dangerous. What if the monster stalking Mia is him after all?

Before we get to the giveaway, I have to express how much I enjoyed this book! And to do that I'm going to blurb a little bit of my review. The full one will be posted closer to June, so here's something to tease you with!
Blurb From My Upcoming Review
J.R. Johansson is not afraid to "go there" and what could have turned out to be a regular old story about a guy who enters dreams of others -- thus sometimes witnessing memories and sharing in the Dreamer's feelings -- became a thriller of the creepiest kind. Parker enters the dream of the last person he's had eye contact with and remains in a sleepless state -- not fully participating in the act that rejuvenates the body and mind. Without sleep, he's slowly dying. That is until he meets Mia. But catching her eye proves difficult. And it begins to turn him into a certifiable stalker, which makes for one interesting thriller!

Book Mash [3]

A new feature on Nawanda Files that is math...for books, where we mash up new and old releases with books, tv and movies. What equals our favorite reads? Find out in the simple equation below.
Combine a young military with the hot male lead commanding the squad, a super high fantasy, and a magical element. What do you get?

Movie Review: The Host

The Host
Release Date: March 29th, 2013
Actors: Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, Jake Abel
Director: Andrew Niccol
Genre: Science Fiction
Rating: PG-13
Current Location: In Theaters

When an unseen enemy threatens mankind by taking over their bodies and erasing their memories, Melanie will risk everything to protect the people she cares most about, proving that love can conquer all in a dangerous new world.

The trailer tricks you. Both Krista and I expected the film to start off different than the books and be in the point of view of Melanie before the Wanderer shares her body. Fans may like that the director stayed true to the novel (both of us haven't read The Host, mind you), but as a film, I would have connected better to both romances and Melanie's character had we learned of her first.

You probably think this one is a dud. With a very Rotten Tomato by critics, I suspected this movie to be a big ole flop too -- as bad, if not worse, than Beautiful Creatures which stayed in theaters for no longer than a blink. However, The Host succeeded in so many places where the other YA adaptation did not. And here's why.

Spotlight + Giveaway: Rise by Anna Carey

Rise (Eve, #3)
by Anna Carey
Series: Eve #3
Publisher: HarperCollins
Release Date: April 2nd, 2013

How far will you go when you have nothing left to lose?

When she lost her soul mate, Caleb, Eve felt like her world had ended. Trapped in the palace, forced to play the part of the happy, patriotic princess of The New America—and the blushing bride of her father's top adviser—Eve's whole life is a lie. The only thing that keeps her going is Caleb's memory, and the revolution he started.

Now, Eve is taking over where Caleb left off. With the help of Moss, an undercover subversive in the King's court, she plots to take down The New America, beginning with the capital, the City of Sand. Will Eve be able to bring about a new, free world when she's called upon to perform the ultimate act of rebellion—killing her father?

In Rise, Eve must choose who to leave behind, who to save, and who to fight as Anna Carey's epic tale of romance and sacrifice in the chilling dystopia of The New America comes to a stunning conclusion.

The Eve series by Anna Carey isn't just three pretty covers. Surprisingly, these beauties are a not only dystopians but also center on a post-apocalyptic future where a virus has destroyed most of earth's population. Even among the bleak future, Eve finds love. Romance/dystopians are my favorite kind and the Eve series sits among the top on Goodreads ratings.
