Best Beginnings

Find MeUnder The Never Sky BY Veronica Rossi
RELEASEd January 3rd 2012 BY HARPER Collins

THOUGHTS: Have you read this beginning? Holy cow, it's awesome. It involves an introduction to a dome-type world where her enemy traps her in quite a dramatic and lasting way. Basically it starts out with a bang ... and a few deaths.

Paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most terrifying case of their lives.

I love scary movies. And then, I hate them. There are some I am unwilling to see (Insidious, Paranormal Activity 4, The Strangers) because they look so terrifying that I'm afraid I won't sleep for the next month. But there are some so compelling that I have no choice but to torture myself. The Conjuring is just that.

Actors: Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi
Director: Guillermo del Toro

Rotten Tomatoes: 71% - FRESH

As a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.

Krista and I had no idea how this movie would be. The promotion looked awesome. Do you see that poster? But the promotion also fizzled out the closer the film reached its release. Critics had been decidedly split. (Or did more people actually like it?) See, it was a mystery. And Krista and I planned to solve it ourselves. What we found... well, we didn't even expect the outcome.

But when they go on a family boat trip, surrounded by open seas and limited male bodies in sight, Lily’s confronted with a big fear. Only one guy onboard can fill her addiction, and she’s sworn off going there with Loren Hale ever again.

Now the only person who can truly help her can barely help himself.

Movie Review: The Bling Ring

The Bling Ring
Release Date: June 21st, 2013
Actors: Katie Chang, Israel Broussard, Emma Watson
Director: Sophia Coppola
Genre: Drama
Rating: R
Current Location: In Theaters
Rotten Tomatoes: 61% - FRESH

Inspired by actual events, a group of fame-obsessed teenagers use the internet to track celebrities' whereabouts in order to rob their homes.

I've been looking forward to this movie for a long time. It's got the make of a great Indie. A stellar plot: the real life robberies that took place in the Hollywood Hills. A stellar cast: Emma Watson and Taissa Farmiga. A stellar director: Sophia Coppola. And a crazy badass soundtrack featuring Sleigh Bells and Kanye West. So yeah, this had the line-up to be an A-worthy film but it definitely didn't meet its potential.

Nearly Gone
by Elle Cosimano
Publisher:  Kathy Dawson Books
Release Date: March 25th, 2014

Bones meets Fringe in a big, dark, scary, brilliantly-plotted urban thriller that will leave you guessing until the very end.

Nearly Boswell knows how to keep secrets. Living in a DC trailer park, she knows better than to share anything that would make her a target with her classmates. Like her mother's job as an exotic dancer, her obsession with the personal ads, and especially the emotions she can taste when she brushes against someone's skin. But when a serial killer goes on a killing spree and starts attacking students, leaving cryptic ads in the newspaper that only Nearly can decipher, she confides in the one person she shouldn't trust: the new guy at school—a reformed bad boy working undercover for the police, doing surveillance. . . on her.

Nearly might be the one person who can put all the clues together, and if she doesn't figure it all out soon—she'll be next.

Interview with Teresa Orts, Author of The Year of the Great Seventh

The Year of the Great Seventh
by Teresa Orts
Publisher: Drayton Press
Release Date: July 6th, 2013

Sophie has always felt out of step — an outsider, even amongst friends in her high school with all the hype about celebrity culture. Her life in L.A. seems to have been already written for her, but when her junior year starts, it all takes a drastic turn. When she crosses paths with the school's heartthrob, Nate Werner, they fall for each other in a way neither can understand. What they don’t know is that by giving in to their desires, they are unlocking an ancient Egyptian prophecy that threatens to return Earth to the dark ages.

To undo the curse, Nate and Sophie embark on an adventure that takes them across the country. But their quest is not only to save the world as they know it. It is also a fight for their very survival. Behind the scenes, there are those that are counting on them to fail.

What inspired you to write The Year of the Great Seventh
The inspiration came out of nowhere. One night I started typing a short story, and the characters felt so real in my mind that I felt the urge to discover what was going to happen to them.

The Year of the Great Seventh features an ancient Egyptian prophecy and mythology. How much research was involved in writing the novel?
Before I wrote anything about Ancient Egypt, I decided to read all I could find about it on the Internet, but the most amazing part came when I walked into the Met in NYC and the story just fell into place among the exhibits of their Ancient Egypt section. I truly enjoyed the research part. Part of the prophecy is based on real Ancient Egypt facts, but some of them are pure fiction. I tried to stick to real facts as much as I possible.

It sounds like Nate and Sophie may have a budding romance as they go on this journey with each other. What do you prefer more: writing heart-pumping action or romantic encounters?
I don’t think they’re mutually exclusive. I like writing heart-pumping action with a romance twist.

Addicted to You Blog Tour Begins: Release Date and Cover Reveal for Addicted #1.5 and more!!

As many of you have probably heard over the past month or so, Krista and I have published a New Adult novel called Addicted to You. Our blog tour hosted by the wonderful YA Bound kicks off today. You can find all of the fantastic blogs participating and the schedule at the bottom of the post. Before we announce some exciting details (the cover for Ricochet: Addicted #1.5 and the release date), we wanted to say thank you.

Before releasing Addicted to You, we honestly had no idea what the response would be. When you're indie pub, you don't have huge publishing companies, editors and publicists patting you on the back and giving you extra confidence (although it's probably still very terrifying to send your "baby" into the world). But we had zero idea on whether or not people would connect to the material. We didn't know if our jokes were funny. If people would laugh or throw their Kindles across the room in anger.

So far, the response has been much more than we could have ever dreamed of or anticipated. And it means the world to us, especially if the book spoke to you in some way or if you just enjoyed reading it. I don't want to go into too much detail. So I though it would be fitting if we expressed ourselves through a gif -- one that's from Dead Poets Society (the namesake of our blog).

Just imagine the "boys" as girls and we're good :)

Now onto the fun stuff. Keep reading for the Cover Reveal for Ricochet and the release date!
