Heroine of the Day: Wren from Reboot

WREN

"Reboot" by Amy Tintera

This girl is badass with a captial B. If you haven't read Reboot then I urge you to go to your bookstore or find it on Kindle. The plot is fantastic, but what leaps this dystopian over all the others is Wren. She's one of my all time favorite heroines for being fearless and strong and yet learning how to be vulnerable. It doesn't hurt that there's an organic love story thrown in the mix.

So here's the breakdown. Wren's a reboot. She's was dead for 178 minutes before being brought back to life. This makes her an emotionless super soldier.

Only she's described as being really short...and blonde. So I guess she looks more like this...

I chose this gif because she's blonde (duh) and because of the quote. It reminds me a lot of Wren. Her flaws are a huge part of the book (and I love me some flawed characters!) But what's even better is that she's a character that grows throughout the novel in such a real way, despite the dystopian elements.

And lastly, I chose the gif because Amanda Seyfried would be my dream cast for Wren. Without a doubt. She'd be able to fiercely fight off baddies and still have the depth to play an emotionless heroine that people can fall in love with.

Amanda Seyfriend

She's holding a lamb!! That is all.

Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders.

  1. I spy a Nikita gif! Man, I'm so bummed that shows over now, though the ending was pretty perfect.

I can't believe I haven't heard of this before, it sounds right up my street! (And hello to Callum Reyes!)

    1. I LOVED the first season of Nikita. It does suck that it's getting canceled :( Oh, the romance in this book is superb! I may have to feature Callum and Wren as a couple of the day in the future. Overall, I love every part of Reboot! Definitely recommended. Thanks for stopping by, Allie!

  2. Great choice! When I read Reboot last year, I fell in love with the world and characters. Like you said above Wren is badass and I love the different side of her that comes out around Callum.

  3. I loved how she growed (though I adored the cold-hearted character we first met) and the fighting (that Nikita gif is just perfection, love, and I'm so pissed that we don't get to see any new material from Maggie Q as Nikita, though re-watching this show never gets old. That's actually one of my favorite scenes of the whole show *winks*) Wren does is admirable and kick-a. I did have issues with the plot in this book because the romance completely took over. It was slow-build, yes, but by the end of it everything was about the romance and it didn't feel natural anymore. I still adored the first half of the book and I agree that Wren is a kick-a heroine full of worth being represented here :)

    1. A Nikita fan!! I'll admit I've only seen the first season, but I've heard it only gets better. Reboot does go into a romance-heavy mode. But luckily I actually love romance aspects in books and don't mind when they take over the plot (I may be the only one, lol). And Wren...gah...full of kick-assery (If that's not a word, then it is now!)

      Thanks for stopping by, Siiri!!

  5. For some reason Reboot just wasn't my thing because of the big focus on the romance, it just really put me off when the badass Wren suddenly went all mushy and made everything about the guy. But yes Amanda Seyfried would be fantastic for her!
