Top Ten Tuesday: On My Reading Wishlist

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

I WANT TO READ ABOUT THIS!

1. VIKINGS

After binging on the History Channels' Vikings series, I'm so craving a YA book about the Nordic people. I'd even request a female lead as badass as Lagertha. Seriously, the woman kicks butt.

2. SKATEBOARDING/X-GAMES STYLE

Kind of like Lords of Dogtown. And it would be cool if the book was in a male POV a la Shawn White. Or you know, a girl BMX rider. That would be sweet!

3. Bisexual Characters

I think these kinds of characters get skimped on in literature. It would be interesting to read a YA book about them as either lead or sub-characters.

4. Pinocchio

Why hasn't this been retold into a YA book yet?! Okay, granted it would be a difficult story to make...romancey (definitely not a word, but it's going here). But I think it would be cool to read a book about a guy who has magical consequences for lying.

5. Destruction of LOVE

So vague, but what I mean by this is kind of like an anti-love story. So instead of reading a couple coming together, you read about them breaking apart. It sounds like masochism to read, but I'm into emotional stories :)

That's it! I'm skimping out and only picking 5 today. But these are at the top of my wishlist. Let me know if you've heard of a book that fits any of these categories! That would be awesome :D And don't forget to leave your links!

  1. Have you read Valkyrie rising already? I think it has Vikings in it. I LOVE Norse mythology. Since Estonian people consider themselves more Nordic/Skandinavian than Baltic, I'm absolutely in love with Norse mythology, even though I'm pretty sure I'd love it even if I wasn't Estonian lol.

Shawn White is a kick-a skateboarder and I'm fully on board with skateboarding books--male OR female POV. I think there are more snowboarding books out there. No Reverse (a New Adult book? I think Nick reviewed it on her blog once and I even have a copy. I think lol.), if I remember correctly, has a snowboarding instructer as the male lead ;)

Bisexual? If you don't mind adult and would love something spicy, check out um.. The third book in Olivia Cunning's Sinners on Tour book. Trey is bisexual and one of my favorite characters in that series and in the rest the NA lit:)

LOL! Pinocchio would be freaking awesome! A retelling. You should ask Mel about that since she loves all things retellings.

Um.. I think I know a book about destruction of love, but I can't tell you the title right off the bat. When I remember, I'll let you know:)

You did great btw, I wouldn't come up with half of these lol.

    1. I did read Valkyrie Rising and I didn't like it that much :( But it was more about Valkyries than Vikings (still Norse mythology though).

I've heard of No Reverse, but I didn't know it had a snowboarding aspect to it!!! Now I must check this out! I've heard of Trey as well. I can do romance and NA bisexual characters but I'm curious if there's any YA out there. I know David Leviathan usually breaks a lot of these barriers in YA though.

I'll need to ask Mel about Pinocchio! Becca told me she was a huge fan of retellings too.

Thanks for stopping by, Siiri! Love your comments (as always) :D

  2. Girls you're back!! I missed you and I love your new design :)
Anyhow this is on amazing list! I totally agree about Vikings that would be cool and destruction of love is my go for book. But then again I'm a masochist! :)
    Great list :)

    1. Thanks Tanja! We so missed the blogosphere! It was a loooong hiatus. I want an anti-love story, so I guess I'm a masochist too. We're in it together, lol! Thanks for stopping by <3

  3. Hmmm, I don't think I've read/watched anything with Vikings in it. I'm with you on number 5, HE HEAs don't happen all the time IRL so it would be nice to see that reflected more in books.

  4. Lords of Dogtown as a book!!! I would totally read something like that, I love the movie! Skating in the swimming pool. And tough girl characters - I don't think I've ever read about a female skateboarder!
I also agree on the bisexual/general LGBT characters. I think there are a few YA books with gay/lesbian characters but I don't think I've ever read about a bi one. The only thing I can come up with are Niall/Irial in Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely novels.
Great list! Oh, and I couldn't come up with 10 things either ;)

  5. I'm a fan of fairy tale retellings, so I'm all in for the Pinocchio part! Wouldn't it be awesome if they make it a creepy retelling?

    1. A creepy pinocchio is where it's at! We need to start begging some YA authors to make it happen, lol :D Thanks for stopping by, Mel!

  6. I'd love to read a book with Nordic mythology! I haven't seen Vikings, but from the commercials I've seen I'm pretty sure I'd love it. And a Pinocchio retelling... Haven't ever thought of it but YES PLEASE

    1. Nordic mythology is the best! The Vikings show is incredible. If you've ever seen Spartacus, I'd say it's kind of like that. Thanks for stopping by!!

  7. Wooow great picks! Truly, why hasn't Pinocchio been retold but a lot of other obscure fairy tales I've never heard of before receive retellings? And you're totally right about bisexual characters being skipped in literature.

  8. These are some awesome ideas! And Pinocchio would be a really interesting retelling!! I wonder how they would do that?? Also, a book about a break up for a change would be awesome! Even if it would be super sad.
