Villain of the Day: The Darkling from Shadow and Bone

THE DARKLING

"Shadow and Bone" by Leigh Bardugo

I'm not sure if there's anyone more sinister, yet so compelling as The Darkling from Shadow and Bone. He's introduced in the book as a mysterious figure. Someone you can't quite pin down. Is he bad? Is he good? Well, the one thing you know is there's something deeper to his character.

What else do we know: He's extremely attractive. He's freakin' powerful as f*ck. And he basically dominates any room he walks into. Yeah. We love him.

I don't want to spoil anything else, so I'm just going to urge you to read the book! Seriously! You won't be disappointed. He's such an original character that literally leaps off the pages as soon as he's introduced. Thanks to Bardugo's incredible writing, she's turned a villain into someone we love to hate and hate to love.

Favorite Quote:

“The problem with wanting," he whispered, his mouth trailing along my jaw until it hovered over my lips, "is that it makes us weak.”

Henry Cavill

He's a little older than the Darkling, but I think this would be a cool casting choice. Cavill is usually the hero in movies, and I think it would be neat to see him play a villain. I do think he could pull the Darkling off. But if I was choosing a model for a dream cast, I would have picked Sean O'Pry. He looks exactly how I picture the Darkling.

The Shadow Fold, a swathe of impenetrable darkness, crawling with monsters that feast on human flesh, is slowly destroying the once-great nation of Ravka.

Alina, a pale, lonely orphan, discovers a unique power that thrusts her into the lavish world of the kingdom’s magical elite—the Grisha. Could she be the key to unravelling the dark fabric of the Shadow Fold and setting Ravka free?

The Darkling, a creature of seductive charm and terrifying power, leader of the Grisha. If Alina is to fulfill her destiny, she must discover how to unlock her gift and face up to her dangerous attraction to him.

But what of Mal, Alina’s childhood best friend? As Alina contemplates her dazzling new future, why can’t she ever quite forget him?

Glorious. Epic. Irresistible. Romance.

  4. "He's extremely attractive. He's freakin' powerful as f*ck. And he basically dominates any room he walks into."--this reminds me of someone else who I love and adore to pieces, thehee. Any guesses? His initials are RCC :') I love to hate the perfect villain and everyone keeps talking about this Darkling guy. I really ought to crack the spine of my gorgeous, gorgeous paperback of Shadow and Bone. Oh, my eyes!!!! That Sean guy is hot! *fans self* though, I wouldn't mind a young version of Henry Cavill. I think I'd very much love to meet this handsome, yet dark villain. Yep, I'd like that very much indeed. Thanks for sheering, Krista :)
