Book Boyfriend of the Day: Jackson Meyer from Tempest

"Tempest" by Julie Cross

I LOVE books told from the guy's perspective. You see this happening more in contemporaries than other genres, so Tempest really stands above the rest of the YA science fiction books out there. Even more so that it's told from a guy who's in college. It defined "upper YA" before New Adult was a thing. And so for that, I swoon--Just for it pushing boundaries.

Another thing to swoon over? Jackson Meyer. This guy is the full package. He's pretty intelligent, capable, sexy and...he can't travel in time. Not to mention while doing it in style.

note: This is a gif from The Tomorrow People. And I picture the time travel in the book much like the teleportation in the show.

Jackson goes through his emotional ups and downs. It's not easy being nineteen, learning you can time travel, and then getting stuck in the past. Not to mention all the shit that goes down in the sequels. This guy takes hit after hit and keeps on going. His relationship with his friends is heartwarming. His love for Holly grows and grows with each book. And his loss over the death of his twin sister is what truly gripped me from the beginning. He's a slightly tortured guy that's dealt an extraordinary (sometimes shitty) hand of cards.

Basically, he's my top book boyfriend from a sci-fi book. I'd let him take me through time any day...corny, yes...but oh, so true ;)

Favorite Quote:

I shared a womb with someone... does that mean we shared a soul? Maybe half my soul is buried, deep under the ground, and I'll never get it back.”

Finn Wittrock

If I was choosing a model, I'd pick Mark Perini hands down. He's the model on the book cover and basically looks exactly how I picture Jackson. But, alas, I'm going to make a tough choice and choose an actor. That being said, I'm picking Finn Wittrock (gif above) as my dream cast. This guy is HOT. And he's an amazing actor. So I think he could bring Jackson Meyer to life.

The year is 2009. Nineteen-year-old Jackson Meyer is a normal guy... he's in college, has a girlfriend... and he can travel back through time. But it's not like the movies - nothing changes in the present after his jumps, there's no space-time continuum issues or broken flux capacitors - it's just harmless fun.

That is... until the day strangers burst in on Jackson and his girlfriend, Holly, and during a struggle with Jackson, Holly is fatally shot. In his panic, Jackson jumps back two years to 2007, but this is not like his previous time jumps. Now he's stuck in 2007 and can't get back to the future.

Desperate to somehow return to 2009 to save Holly but unable to return to his rightful year, Jackson settles into 2007 and learns what he can about his abilities. But it's not long before the people who shot Holly in 2009 come looking for Jackson in the past, and these "Enemies of Time" will stop at nothing to recruit this powerful young time-traveler. Recruit... or kill him.

Piecing together the clues about his father, the Enemies of Time, and himself, Jackson must decide how far he's willing to go to save Holly... and possibly the entire world.

  1. The first book is in my cart on TBD right now haha. And I've been thinking about reading this time travel story for quite some time now. I applaud you for this post, Krista, because it's not easy to make fangirling sound classy and delicate lol. I definitely approve the gifs and I'm going to bookmark this post for when I start reading the book and want to imagine Jackson in my head :) Great post!

  2. I just LOVE the fact that you used a gif from The Tomorrow People which is perfect for Tempest! Great pick, he's completely hot hehe.
