Top Releases for May 2014

There are so many books I'm so excited for, and I wanted to highlight the ones that I'm either pre-ordering or counting down the days to. I'm a little behind (still reading my April pre-orders) but hopefully I can squeeze some time in for my absolute favs!

The One (The Selection, #3)1. The One by Kiera Cass

The Selection changed the lives of thirty-five girls forever. And now, the time has come for one winner to be chosen.

America never dreamed she would find herself anywhere close to the crown—or to Prince Maxon's heart. But as the competition approaches its end and the threats outside the palace walls grow more vicious, America realizes just how much she stands to lose—and how hard she'll have to fight for the future she wants.

I'm pretty obsessed with The Selection series, and even went a little fangirl crazy at the events of The Elite. I wasn't too pleased (my shipper heart was breaking) but I'm in so much love with Cass' addictive writing style that I will read anything she writes. Plus, I need to know how this love triangle ends, which is why it tops my list for May.

We Were Liars2. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

The premise for this one is really mysterious:
A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.
That's seriously it. But I can't help but be captivated by it. Friends known as "The Liars"?! I'm all for little secret societies. This blog is named after The Dead Poets Society after all. Bring on the lies!

Since You've Been Gone3. Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

The Pre-Sloane Emily didn't go to parties, she barely talked to guys, she didn't do anything crazy. Enter Sloane, social tornado and the best kind of best friend—the one who yanks you out of your shell. But right before what should have been an epic summer, Sloane just... disappears. No note. No calls. No texts. No Sloane. There’s just a random to-do list. On it, thirteen Sloane-selected-definitely-bizarre-tasks that Emily would never try... unless they could lead back to her best friend. Apple Picking at Night? Ok, easy enough.Dance until Dawn? Sure. Why not? Kiss a Stranger? Wait... what?

Getting through Sloane’s list would mean a lot of firsts. But Emily has this whole unexpected summer ahead of her, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected) to check things off. Who knows what she’ll find?

Go Skinny Dipping? Um...
This seems like a really cute Summer mystery. I'm already intrigued. Plus that cover is all kinds of adorbs. And it doesn't hurt that the early reviews for this book have been really, really fantastic.

Free to Fall4. Free to Fall by Lauren Miller

What if there was an app that told you what song to listen to, what coffee to order, who to date, even what to do with your life—an app that could ensure your complete and utter happiness? What if you never had to fail or make a wrong choice?

What if you never had to fall?

Fast-forward to a time when Apple and Google have been replaced by Gnosis, a monolith corporation that has developed the most life-changing technology to ever hit the market: Lux, an app that flawlessly optimizes decision making for the best personal results. Just like everyone else, sixteen-year-old Rory Vaughn knows the key to a happy, healthy life is following what Lux recommends. When she’s accepted to the elite boarding school Theden Academy, her future happiness seems all the more assured. But once on campus, something feels wrong beneath the polished surface of her prestigious dream school. Then she meets North, a handsome townie who doesn’t use Lux, and begins to fall for him and his outsider way of life. Soon, Rory is going against Lux’s recommendations, listening instead to the inner voice that everyone has been taught to ignore — a choice that leads her to uncover a truth neither she nor the world ever saw coming.
This premise is ridiculously awesome, and I'm surprised that it's taken this long for a sci-fi to capitalize on the new age of apps. But I'm so excited it's Lauren Miller who's behind this book. I read Parallel and loved her writing style. Can't wait for Free to Fall!

Life by Committee5. Life by Committee by Corey Ann Haydu

Some secrets are too good to keep.

Tabitha might be the only girl in the history of the world who actually gets less popular when she gets hot. But her so-called friends say she’s changed, and they’ve dropped her flat.

Now Tab has no one to tell about the best and worst thing that has ever happened to her: Joe, who spills his most intimate secrets to her in their nightly online chats. Joe, whose touch is so electric, it makes Tab wonder if she could survive an actual kiss. Joe, who has Tabitha brimming with the restless energy of falling in love. Joe, who is someone else’s boyfriend.

Just when Tab is afraid she’ll burst from keeping the secret of Joe inside, she finds Life by Committee. The rules of LBC are simple: tell a secret, receive an assignment. Complete the assignment to keep your secret safe.

Tab likes it that the assignments push her to her limits, empowering her to live boldly and go further than she’d ever go on her own.

But in the name of truth and bravery, how far is too far to go?
Corey Ann Haydu's OCD Love Story is in my all time favorites of EVER. So I've planned to read anything this woman writes. It helps that Life By Committee seems really, insanely original. So it deserves a spot on my top releases list.
