Waiting on Wednesday: Talon by Julie Kagawa

Talon (Talon, #1)

WAITING ON WEDNESDAY:

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine spotlighting upcoming releases that readers are eagerly anticipating

Talon
by Julie Kagawa

I must confess, I've never read a Julie Kagawa book. But Becca is a huge fan of her Iron Fey series, so I'm pretty excited about Talon. I like dragons more than fairy books, so this seems to be more up my ally. Plus, the cover is so sleek and cool. No corny looking dragons on the cover! So much love, and big kudos to the editorial department in charge of this cover.

Talon by Julie Kagawa releases October 28th, 2014. Keep reading for the blurb and links.

Top Ten Books if You Like The Vampire Diaries and The Tomorrow People

TOP TEN TUESDAY

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

FOR TVD FANS AND TPP FANS

We're pretty obsessed with the CW over here at Nawanda Files, so I chose two very different CW shows for this Top Ten Tuesday. The first 5 books are for anyone who loves The Vampire Diaries. The vamp show has some of the best drama and thrills. But if you're more of a Tomorrow People fan then maybe you're into sci-fi -- those would be my last 5 suggestions.

1. Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins

This is a must. If you've never read Sweet Evil then you are missing out big time! There's a huge paranormal element: The main characters are Nephelum that have to carry out the sins of the Dukes (i.e. Lust, Wrath, Envy, etc) The romance is spot on, and you'll fall in love fast.

Sweet Evil (The Sweet Trilogy, #1) Obsidian (Lux, #1) Hemlock (Hemlock, #1)

Ranking the Future 2014 YA Adaptations

Ranking the YA Books into Movies for (the rest of) 2014:

I'm a little obsessed with books into movies, especially YA adaptations. I've been so crunched for time that I haven't been able to do any "Books into Movies" posts this year. Divergent and Vampire Academy have already come out. VA flopped in theaters and Divergent was left with a mixed audience. Though they are pumping up gear for the Divergent sequels. And has anyone heard about the rumors to split the third book into two movies? No? Yes? I've heard lots of dissention from fans. After watching The Hobbit: Part 2 and realizing it only contained 5 f'ing chapters from the book, I'm joing the side of "do not split up a book into 2 movies pleeeeease" and then we have to file a disclaimer *unless it's Harry Potter

There's still plenty of YA adaptations coming out this year that we should all be looking forward to. TFIOS, anyone? I'm going to rank the 2014 YA movies in order of excitement. This is also my prediction in how well they will do in the box office.

1. If I Stay by Gayle Forman

First of all, watch this trailer...

Now, tell me you didn't cry. If you didn't, you need to go see a therapist. You are made of stone, my friend. In all honesty, I've never read this book but the movie looks perfectly cast and scripted. The parents look so original. Rocker parents? I love it! And the emotion that I know will come from this film is already seeping into the trailer. It's my pick to win it all. Bonus Points: Casting an unknown for Adam. Perfection.

Book Boyfriend of the Day: Evan from The 5th Wave

BOOK BOYFRIEND OF THE DAY:

Evan
"The 5th Wave" by Rick Yancey

Obviously, I'm so not over this book, so I decided to feature one of my favorite characters from The 5th Wave. I could have chosen Cassie as Heroine of the Day, since I loved her immensely, but I thought I'd shake it up with a book boyfriend. Plus, Evan is described as a younger version of the guy on the Brawny paper towel--um...yes, please!

The 5th Wave is a post-apacolyptic book with an alien invasion, so you'd be surprised to find any romance in this one. But there is, and it's my favorite kind. It's the romance that stems from survival, which seems to bring the most unlikely people really really close together in a short amount of time. It's why I think insta-love has no place here. When you're trying to live another day, things happen at a different kind of pace.

Evan is enigmatic, and I can't say much about his character without spoiling everything. But what I can say is he's protective, hot, alpha, and has an emotional depth you wouldn't peg from the beginning. If this book gets made into a movie, this will be the casting choice that I'll be most excited for.

Favorite Quote (also a bit spoilery):
I could have chosen a non-spoilery quote but this is my favorite so...whatever. Here it is:

“I am a shark, Cassie," he says slowly, drawing the words out, as if he might be speaking to me for the last time. Looking into my eyes with tears in his, as if he's seeing me for the last time. "A shark who dreamed he was a man.”

Top Ten Tuesday: Bookish Things (That Aren't Books) That I'd Like To Own

TOP TEN TUESDAY

I WANT THESE! WANT! WANT! WANT!

1. A Library in My House

This is a long term goal. When I die, I will die in my library with my books. Bam! I would also like a spiral staircase and one of those moving staircases. Basically...I would like heaven, please ;)

Now that's a cool idea. A floor-length window looking out on a gorgeous view in a library! This space is obviously meant to enjoy a book, and not to show off. Could use some comfy floor furnishings though :)

Book Haul...The One With Leprechauns

BOOK HAUL...THE ONE WITH LEPRECHAUNS

I've been in internet hell/perguatory or whatever you want to call it for a full week. This is where I bow down to all the bloggers who seem to schedule posts weeks in advance. Obviously, I am not that awesome.

Usually book hauls/stacking the shelves are on the weekend, but my days are all confused and turned around with being gone for a week. So it's MONDAY BOOK HAUL! Holla!

I have lots of awesome books plus a Wendy Higgins book that I am salivating to read. Seriously, I'm drooling ;)
  • See Me by Wendy Higgins
    • Hello, there are leprechauns in this book! And it's written by the same author that brought us Sweet Evil. There is no doubt I'll be devouring it soon.
  • Plus One by Elizabeth Fama
    • I pre-ordered this one a little while back. The cover is gorgeous, and the concept seems to be the star-crossed lovers theme...maybe. It sounds awesome!!
  • Cress by Marissa Meyer
    • I've read the first two books in the series, and needed to get on with the third. I've heard nothing but fantastic things. And if it's as good as Scarlet, then I know I'm in for a treat.
  • Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken
    • I've been meaning to read this one for a REALLY long time, but I've always passed by it in bookstores. I thought I'd snag me a paperback and change that ;)

Have you read any of these books? Have you heard about them? Sound off below!

What I'm Reading [1]

Dorothy Must Die (Dorothy Must Die, #1)

WHAT I'M READING...

2014 has been a year of writing with much less reading for me. But when I do start a book, it feels super special and so I want to shout it from the rooftops.

Dorothy Must Die
by Danielle Paige

I've been waiting for this book for...forever. So when my pre-order came in the mail, I was all kinds of happy.

It already sounds like such an amazing concept. Dorothy is evil. Amy must venture into Oz to kill her. What?! Yes. I'm so down for this. Combined with some really great reviews from other bloggers already, and I think this could be a winner.

I'm starting it today, so I'm pumped. I'm ready. Reading is a go.

Have you read Dorothy Must Die? Have you heard about it? Sound off below!
