On My TBR: The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury

Hello! I'm back...again, kind of. Last year was the death of blogging for me. Literally 2 posts in 2015. Ouch. This year, I'm going to try harder because truthfully I love chatting on this blog. And there are times that I miss it dearly.

Last year, I slowed down with reading, so for 2016, I have LOTS to catch up on. Which brings me to my reoccuring posts: On My TBR. There are so many YA and NA books that I'm dying to read. So many that are high, high, high up on my TBR. These posts will not only be a catalog of sorts for my own TBR, but maybe will help spread the word on some new and older releases.

Also, these posts will feature only one book instead of lists. I like the idea of giving all the attention to a single book :)

p.s. there will probably be a slew of typos. My editing brain usually shuts off when I blog.

She is the most powerful Jinni of all. He is a boy from the streets. Their love will shake the world...

When Aladdin discovers Zahra's jinni lamp, Zahra is thrust back into a world she hasn't seen in hundreds of years -- a world where magic is forbidden and Zahra's very existence is illegal. She must disguise herself to stay alive, using ancient shape-shifting magic, until her new master has selected his three wishes.

But when the King of the Jinn offers Zahra a chance to be free of her lamp forever, she seizes the opportunity—only to discover she is falling in love with Aladdin. When saving herself means betraying him, Zahra must decide once and for all: is winning her freedom worth losing her heart?

As time unravels and her enemies close in, Zahra finds herself suspended between danger and desire in this dazzling retelling of Aladdin from acclaimed author Jessica Khoury.

Reasons to Read

  • Jessica Khoury's previous books have mostly been pure YA science fiction novels. And while I love me some science fiction, I'm ridiculously excited to see her work her magic on a fantasy.
  • It's a retelling of Aladdin. ALADDIN!!!!!!!!
  • Ancient shape-shifting magic. I love shape-shifting books, so not only is this a retelling, but it has one of my favorite magical elements in it.
  • That cover. It's gorgeous. It wants to be on my shelf.
  • People on Goodreads are going crazy for it. Seriously, GR friends, keep on giving this book 5 stars because you're just making me want it even more.

  1. awwww Krista!! I was literally just thinking about how much I miss the old days where I had all the time in the world for blogging and when I talked to you and Becca and YA Book Exchange and...yeah. Glad to see Nawanda Files pop up in my inbox! <3

And this book looks SO good!! I'm really excited to read it. I've heard some great things and some "on the fence" things but I think it's one I'll really enjoy. Hope we both have good luck with this one! <3
